    Description

    Lee County is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Transportation Plan Reviewer to join the Department of Community Development in the Development Services section. This position is responsible for analyzing and evaluating transportation impacts associated with proposed developments. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in traffic impact analysis and transportation planning while maintaining strong communication skills and the ability to exercise independent judgment, initiative, and creative problem-solving.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

     

    + Conduct detailed reviews of proposed development applications with a focus on transportation impacts.

    + Analyze Traffic Impact Statements (TIS) and parking studies associated with proposed developments.

    + Evaluate development proposals for concurrency with public infrastructure capacities, including potable water, sanitary sewer, stormwater management, transportation planning, and educational facilities.

    + Provide technical recommendations and ensure compliance with County codes and planning documents.

    + Collaborate with internal departments, external consultants, and the public to resolve transportation-related planning issues.

    + Leads discussions with consultants to address traffic analysis, mitigation strategies, and project-specific transportation concerns.

    + Participate in development review meetings and present findings or recommendations to decision-making bodies as needed.

    + Serve as Department of Community Development liaison to the Lee County MPO Technical Advisory Committee.

     

    Education, Experience, Licensing

    Minimum Requirements

    + Education: Bachelor’s degree in urban or transportation planning, engineering (civil, transportation, structural, industrial, mechanical, architecture, etc.), or a closely related field.

    + Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in land use, transportation or traffic planning, including development review responsibilities.

    + Driver’s License: Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.

    Preferred Requirements

    + Experience with traffic impact analysis, transportation modeling, or transportation planning.

    + Knowledge of Florida planning statutes and local government processes.

    + Professional certifications are a plus: AICP, PTP, or PE (or in progress).

     

    Supplemental Information

     

    + Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of transportation planning, traffic engineering, and land development regulations.

    + Local Expertise: Familiarity with Lee County’s Land Development Code and Comprehensive Plan.

    + Planning Experience: Experience with planning processes, including concurrency management and development review.

    + Regulatory Proficiency: Proficient in interpreting and applying local, state, and federal transportation regulations.

    + Communication Skills: Strong written, verbal, and public speaking skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

    + Analytical Ability: Ability to critically assess complex traffic analyses and suggest practical solutions or alternatives.

    + Project Management: Skilled in managing multiple projects and priorities in a collaborative environment.

    + Software Proficiency: Experience with GIS, traffic modeling, or transportation planning software is highly desirable.
