Position summary:
The Director position is responsible for managing and supervising all operations related to the Surgical Technology program.
Position responsibilities:
+ Serve as liaison between the Dean and the Faculty within the department
+ Secure and maintain ongoing program approval from CAAHEP, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs
+ Develop and maintain program specific policies for the program that meet accreditation standards
+ Demonstrate excellence in instruction, evaluate faculty, and encourage professional development as needed
+ Conduct regular department meetings and record minutes for posting online
+ Develop annual department budget request with input from faculty
+ Manage approved department budget with appropriate documentation
+ Coordinate advisory committee membership and schedule committee meetings
+ Recruit, screen, and facilitate employment of qualified faculty (fulltime and adjunct) as needed
+ Assist in recruitment, advisement and registration of students
+ Prepare course schedules each semester and update syllabi annually; Coordinate syllabi, course content, and collect IE data for all department courses. Assist in the adoption of textbooks each semester to be approved by Dean
+ Assign faculty workloads and submit paperwork for overloads and adjunct pay to Dean
+ Manage classrooms, labs, and facilities to ensure students’ learning needs are met
+ Promote the programs through participation in area and community events as well as press releases
+ Develop the curriculum and continue curriculum revisions of the programs so student training and skill development meets employer need
+ Assist faculty in resolving appeals and complaints
+ Ensure all department information (brochures, website, catalog, handbook, etc.) is current and consistent
+ Conduct all aspects of annual department Institutional Effectiveness (assessment, planning, data collection, analysis, reflection, evaluation, new plan and all documentation)
+ Provide reports such as Technical Review, Gainful Employment, SACSCOC, etc. in a timely manner
+ Serve on college committees as assigned and recommend department faculty for committees
+ Perform other functions consistent with a director’s responsibilities when requested by Administration
+ Actively participate in related consortia, partnerships, organizations, etc.
+ Support the philosophy and mission of the College
+ Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations
+ Administers daily operations to include policy adherence and regulatory compliance to CAAHEP rules and regulations
+ Resolves student issues/complaints
+ Serves as resource to faculty and other College staff
+ Coordinates and participates in community outreach and public relations activities. Represents the College and the program at conferences and other professional events. Establishes and maintains community networks with other local colleges
+ Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
+ Perform all other duties as assigned
Minimum Knowledge & Skills Knowledge in:
+ CAAHEP rules and regulations
+ Surg Tech curriculum, implementation, revision and evaluation
+ Counseling skills (students, faculty and staff)
+ Applicable computer programs and equipment
+ Public relations principles and practices
+ Supervisory principles
+ Budget planning and monitoring
+ Regulatory issues pertaining to program
Skills in:
+ Monitoring and evaluating staff
+ Prioritizing work and performing multiple tasks
+ Using computers and software application programs
+ Designing curriculum and course offerings
+ Facilitating effective group interactions
+ Solving problems
+ Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. Preferred Knowledge & Skills
+ In addition to the minimum skills, it is preferred that the incumbent have experience with
+ Surg Tech curriculum development, implementation, revision, and evaluation
+ Grant writing and management
+ Program assessment
Minimum Position Requirements:
+ Associate’s degree; Bachelor’s degree preferred
+ Have at least 2 years’ experience in a leadership position in a Surgical Technology or educational role
+ Have demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities in the administration of educational programs
+ Experience with accreditation reports/visits
+ Must hold current license/certification to practice as a Surgical Technologist
Supervisory Responsibilities:
+ 3 Full-Time Direct Reports 0 Part-Time Direct Reports
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
+ Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office and classroom environment.
+ No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
+ No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
Safety:
Provide resources for safe operation of units. Create and support workplace safety.

+ Tuition scholarships are for the employee and dependents.
+ Compensation for this 9-month position is based on years of teaching at institutions of higher education, and highest level of education. Base pay for no experience ranges from $41,431 for an associate's degree to $51,127 for a doctorate with a stipend for director. Overload and summer classes are paid separately.
Kilgore College does not participate in the federal Social Security program.
All full-time positions are located in Kilgore, TX. No fully work from home positions are available at this time. All employees must be available to physically present to work on the Kilgore, TX or Longview, TX Campus. Some Part-Time and Adjunct positions may be offsite but the candidate MUST live in the State of Texas.

Positions will remain open until filled. Some Adjunct and Part-Time teaching positions may remain open perpetually as the need for part time instructors fluctuates with student enrollment. Teaching positions will be required to submit official transcripts upon an offer of employment. An offer of employment will be contingent upon passing a background check.
