    Job Summary:

    This position is taking a critical leadership role of the interest rate risk management for MUFG Bank NY Branch. As VP of Balance Sheet Optimization desk under Treasury organization, this role is responsible for leading the development of Interest Rate Risk (IRR) management strategy including investment and derivative strategies, as well as the production and monitoring IRR risk metrics (e.g., EaR, EVE). This position is also expected to manage IRR model risk management as well as other internal controls & governance.

     

    MUFG Bank NY Branch Treasury team is a relatively small organization where small desks closely work together. While the role is primarily specialized in IRR, there is also a lot of opportunity to go beyond boundaries and expand knowledge and experiences in broader treasury areas. As a branch of a large Foreign Banking Organization, this role is also expected to hold a global mindset and adaptability ot the diverse culture. To support fostering such mindset, the bank provides several development opportunities such as global rotational program by leveraging our global network including Tokyo head office, and it’s obviously a great plus for the career progression.

    Key Dimensions:

    + **Develop IRR management strategies**

    + Support treasury leadership team to develop short-term and mid-long term IRR management strategies and associated action plans for investment and IRS hedging activities.

    + Conduct research on financial markets, economies and policies and their effects on IRR strategies.

    + Monitor, report and present the BS IRR and profitability profiles.

    + **Analyze, assess and control the IRR embedded in MUFG Bank Ltd. US branches’ balance sheets, ability to model all CUSO entities for NII/EAR/EVE metrics.**

    + Lead monthly IRR cadence from assumption update, running IRR system (Moody’s ZMdesk), review and report the risk metrics (NII/EaR/EVE).

    + Own IRR models and its overall governance process; maintain IRR model documentation.

    + **Ensure internal controls and governance of Interest Rate Risk management practice of MUFG U.S.**

    + Ensure internal controls in place and effective for IRR strategy executions as well as IRR report productions

    + Develop/maintain policies and procedures regarding the IRR production process

    + Support group level (Combined U.S. Operations) governance for IRR

    + **Work closely with other functional teams under Treasury to develop and execute balance sheet and ALM strategies**

    + Communicate with other balance sheet management members, liquidity and funding teams to collectively formulate short-term / mid-term ALM strategy

    + Coordinate with cross-functional teams to lead initiatives / resolve issues owned by Treasury

    + **Perform related duties and participate in special projects (including both domestic and global) as required from Treasury standpoints.**

    Qualifications

    Job Requirements

    + A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

    + Proven collaborative leadership skills to own and execute complex projects/initiatives by working closely with broad stakeholders and treasury colleagues.

    + 5 or more years of Balance Sheet and Interest Rate Risk Management experience; including experience in calculating NII/EVE/EAR and their model development.

    + Working knowledge of IRR systems such as Moody’s ZMdesk, QRM are highly desirable.

    + An understanding of risk management practices, financial market instruments and regulatory requirements in a foreign banking organization (FBO) is required, including current regulatory requirements (such as IRRBB).

    + Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment and willingness to step outside of primary responsibilities to support other teams/functions and contribute wherever needed to achieve shared goals.

    + Strong quantitative and problem solving skills.

    + A clear and effective communicator - both written and oral.

    + Ability to deliver practical solutions in a demanding high-pressure environment.

    + Advanced Excel and VBA skills are preferred. Coding skills are plus.

     

    The typical base pay range for this role is between $149K - $195K depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and location. This role may also be eligible for certain discretionary performance-based bonus and/or incentive compensation.
