    This position is responsible for the maintenance and operation of eight (8) historic structures and six (6) modern park facilities, grounds, and equipment. Applicants will perform skilled and non-skilled maintenance duties, including equipment maintenance, plumbing, carpentry, maintaining HVAC systems, mowing, weed trimming, trash pick-up, vehicle maintenance, cleaning facilities, and other duties as assigned. Other job duties include conducting routine inspections to identify maintenance needs, maintaining equipment records electronically, reporting major issues to supervisors, and assisting in the supervision and training of seasonal employees.

     

    Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC maintenance. Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively, including an ATV, tractor, and chainsaw. Ability to assess maintenance issues and determine effective solutions. Understanding of maintenance schedules and best practices for keeping equipment and buildings in good working condition. Applicants must be able to lift 50 lbs., have a high comfort level working in outdoor situations and heights. Must possess a valid driver’s license, be able to traverse rough terrain on foot, and work a varied shift, including weekends and holidays in widely varying weather conditions outdoors. A driver’s record check will be performed.

    Preferred qualifications: This position provides maintenance to eight (8) historic structures ranging from 1847 to 1900. Skill knowledge of historic plasterwork, historic carpentry techniques including mortise and tenon and log structures, historic masonry techniques, knowledge of historic preservation and/or restoration techniques, or a willingness to learn is preferred.

     

    Minimum qualifications: High school diploma or GED required. Additional vocational training in a skilled trade is preferred, plus at least one (1) year of experience in maintenance, repair, or a skilled trade. No certifications required, but vocational training in maintenance or a skilled trade is preferred. Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee.

    Job Summary

    The Trades Specialist performs skilled maintenance, repair, and upkeep of state-owned buildings, facilities, equipment, and grounds. This position is responsible for completing a variety of tasks, including plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, painting, and general repairs. The Trades Specialist ensures all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with state and federal regulations.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Perform routine and preventive maintenance on state buildings, including inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing structural, mechanical, and electrical issues. Conduct minor plumbing repairs, such as fixing leaks, replacing fixtures, and clearing clogged drains. Install, repair, and maintain doors, windows, locks, and other structural components. Assist in maintaining HVAC systems, including filter changes and routine troubleshooting. Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance needs and report major issues to supervisors. Operate a variety of hand and power tools, such as drills, saws, pressure washers, and paint sprayers. Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on state-owned maintenance equipment. Prepare surfaces and apply paint, stain, or other finishes to walls, ceilings, and furniture. Patch drywall, plaster, and other surfaces as needed to maintain building appearance.

     

    Knowledge and Skills
