    Job Summary

    The Locksmith performs locksmith-related work requiring knowledge in installing, maintaining, and repairing different types of building locks including cylindrical, unit, mortise, rim, and reload cylinders. This position also requires a level of knowledge about replacing and repairing panic hardware, door closures, desk locks, file cabinet locks, display case locks, and other similar container-type locks. The Locksmith cuts new or replacement keys, picks locks for which keys have been lost or broken, and makes repairs to locks as required under emergency conditions. The Locksmith also maintains an adequate and appropriate stock of locksmith supplies and equipment, monitors and reports maintenance issues needing attention to the appropriate authority, maintains a file of master keys, updates and maintains documentation software; evaluates hardware to ensure security and compliance with state fire codes, must have a valid driver license and performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

    Responsibilities

    The ideal candidate for this position:

    + Has experience as a locksmith and/or facilities maintenance.

    + Mechanical inclined

    + Is dependable and a team player.

    + Willing and able to learn.

    Responsibilities:

    + Assures safety to campus buildings and equipment by maintaining, repairing and installing all locks.

    + Sets up and maintains all key records and system updates to ensure accurate and current information.

    + Provides assistance to departments concerning the implementation of new key systems.

    + Cuts new or replacement keys and files original keys using an approved key control system.

    + Responds to emergency reports of lockouts, key and lock problems and security requests.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Two years full-time general locksmithing experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); ability to understand the basic requirements of master keying systems; and ability to develop appropriate key codes to fit existing master key systems required. Experience with manual and computerized key record and filing systems; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required. Dependent upon department of assignment, a valid Utah driver’s license may be required. Graduation from an approved locksmithing school is preferred. This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.
