The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a **MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST LEAD – IMMUNOLOGY.** **WORK SCHEDULE**

+ Develops and evaluates methodologies, reagents and procedures
+ Assigns and oversees the work of others.
+ Assists with regulatory and compliance aspects of clinical testing
+ Helps evaluate the performance of fellows, residents, students, and staff **REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Accredited Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science OR equivalent education/experienceAND
+ Medial Laboratory Science certification with the American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent, or certification with a specialty organization appropriate to the laboratory divisionAND
+ Three years of professional experience including at least one year as a Medical Laboratory Scientist 2 or equivalent.
+ Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration. **PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**
+ Lead and point of contact for departmental staff move to central reference laboratory location. Helps to lead in planning the logistics as well as workflow changes.
+ Provides daily leadership in the laboratory sections assigned and provides guidance on issues.
+ Develops and evaluates new methods.
+ Establishes policies to the areas assigned.
+ Ensures appropriate QA protocols and policies are followed by all staff.
+ Ensures that all stakeholders are enformed.
+ Oversees, reviews, and enforces the Immunology Lab’s QC policies and procedures.
+ Assists with troubleshooting tests with QC failures.
+ Maintains and updates procedure manuals and protocols as needed.
+ Oversees preventive maintenance schedule and assigns tasks as needed.
+ Prepares for and participates in inspections by regulatory agencies.
+ Ensures that maintenance contracts are up to date and contracts are carried through.
+ Schedules and documents the training of new MLS staff in the Immunology Lab, and the training of current MLS staff on new procedures and instruments.Works with the supervisor to assess and document the competency of staff in the Immunology Lab.
+ Provides feedback of Immunology Lab staff performance to the Clinical Lab Manager.
+ Assigns staff to Immunology Lab bench duties.
+ Perform all duties of the Medical Laboratory Scientist 1 or 2 as needed. **CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**
+ It will be necessary to work in other departmental locations in order to meet patient service requirements, including Harborview Medical Center and at other UW School of Medicine locations (e.g., South Lake Union) and Seattle-area healthcare institutions, and also including an anticipated central lab location (Renton, WA) when scheduled.
