We are currently seeking Archaeology Technicians with experience in cemetery excavation to join our dynamic team for a 2025 winter-spring cemetery project in Indianapolis.

    Position Overview

    As an Archaeology Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting field programs with a primary focus on human remains excavation and archaeological investigations. This position provides the opportunity to work on unique and sensitive projects while ensuring compliance with ethical and professional standards. This position requires the ability to work outdoors in urban and remote locations and for extended periods under all weather conditions, often traversing rugged terrain. Stantec is committed to workplace safety and maintaining safe work practices. Location: Based in the Indianapolis metro area, this position may involve a combination of local and out-of-town field projects. Applicants residing within an hour of Indianapolis are strongly encouraged to apply, though candidates from farther away may also be considered for the right fit. Key Responsibilities

     

    + Participate in archaeological monitoring, data collection, and excavation in accordance with professional and ethical standards.

    + Work under the supervision of a field director or crew lead, primarily on projects in Indiana and neighboring states.

    + Collaborate on laboratory tasks related to cemetery investigations, including artifact processing, documentation, and curation, as needed.

    + Ensure compliance with safety protocols in all field and laboratory practices.

    + Travel to various project sites may be required. Paid travel time, standard GSA per diem, and single occupancy accommodations provided for non-local assignments.

    Your Capabilities and Credentials

    + Experience with cemetery and human remains excavation, including familiarity with regulatory compliance and ethical considerations.

    + Ability to conduct Phase I surveys, Phase II testing, Phase III data recovery, and archaeological monitoring.

    + Proficiency in laboratory tasks such as artifact processing, classification, database management, and report preparation.

    + Valid driver’s license and ability to operate motorized vehicles.

    + Capability to pass a background check.

    + Must be able to pass a drug test and background check. Preferred Skills:

    + Knowledge of relevant Indiana burial laws and cultural resource management guidelines.

    + Experience with mapping tools, GPS equipment, and related field technology.

    + Perform archaeological fieldwork with a specific focus on cemetery and human remains excavation.

    Education and Experience

    + Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or related field preferred. Minimum high school diploma.

    + Previous experience in a field school or CRM setting as an archaeologist, surveyor, or similar role preferred.

    + Technical expertise or specialty within Archaeology/Anthropology is advantageous.

    + Familiarity with recording field data using ESRI’s Field Maps is highly desirable.

    + Working knowledge of Midwest/Great Lakes archaeology and field methods is preferred.

    + Prior Training in Osteology is preferred

    **Pay Transparency:** In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
