Summary The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in Smithsonian Institution’s Office of Facilities Management (FM), Office of Facilities Management and Reliability (OFMR). The Office of Facilities Management and Reliability provides the full range of building services through eight maintenance and operational zones. Responsibilities The Facilities Services Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementation of all building/facilities services, laborer, custodial and materials handling operations within the zone/building. In this position, you will: Plan, direct, monitor and manage the operations of a zone/building in the day-to-day oversight of a large cleaning operation, labor and moving services, and special event coordination. Perform the full range of supervisory functions for Building and Facilities Services, Custodial, Laborer, and Materials Handling staff. Use a maintenance management computer software system (Facility Center) for timekeeping, purchasing, work order management and reporting. Requirements Conditions of Employment Requires career/career-conditional status or eligibility. Males born after 12/31/59 must be registered with Selective Service. Conditions of Employment Physical Requirements: This position requires the physical ability to perform moderately heavy work including lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 50 lbs.; work outside in all weather conditions with exposure to dirt, dust, pollen and insects; climb ladders and stairs; and stand and walk for extended periods. Additional Conditions of Employment: Must have a valid State or District of Columbia driver's license. (You must submit a copy with your application). Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education Additional Information This position is not included in the bargaining unit.
