    Surgical Veterinary Assistant

     

    Kelly Outsourcing Consulting Group has an opening for a **Surgical** **Veterinary Assistant** for a long-term engagement at one of our Global medical device clients in Cincinnati, Ohio. The role is eligible for medical benefits, paid time off including vacation (PTO), and holidays, 401K, and annual performance reviews. The Kelly OCG team supports Preclinical Research in Vivarium operations and includes twenty team members.     + **Schedule** : On site –Monday through Friday day shift

    + **Pay:** $18-23 an hour Depending on experience

    Responsibilities:

    + This position will work closely with the surgical and anesthesia teams that consist of licensed veterinary technicians, Surgical Research Specialists, veterinarians, and veterinary surgeons.

    + Provide veterinary assistance in preparing for and conducting survival, non-survival (acute), and inanimate labs.

    + Ensure that lab areas, including surgical suites and surgical support areas, are set-up and supplied with appropriate instrumentation and lab equipment.

    + Ensure that lab areas, including surgical suites and support areas, are restored to proper order at the conclusion of labs. This may include appropriately disposing of single-use items, putting away lab equipment, and washing reusable instrumentation.

    + Assist the surgical team

    + Pulling items for sterile surgeries

    + Opening sterile back tables

    + Circulating during surgery

    + Assist in the running of blood tests in-house and preparing samples to ship to outside labs.

    + Adherence to research protocol and SOP requirements for survival and acute lab procedures.

    + Maintain lab and instrumentation sterility in compliance with regulatory requirements and departmental procedures.

    + Ensure proper documentation and record keeping in compliance with GLP, SOP and protocol requirements.

    + Quality-check (QC) appropriate documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements and departmental procedures.

    + Participate in required annual health surveillance program (including the completion of blood-borne pathogen training and respirator fit testing).

    + Participate in quarterly audit reviews to maintain regulatory and departmental compliance.

    + Receive schedule assignments and identifies gaps and proactively notifies management of conflicts.

    + Assist in surgical activities as needed once training has been completed.

    + Assist with inventory as needed.

    + Assist Materials and Equipment Assistant as needed.

    + Act as equipment owner when designated.

    + Interact with internal and external partners and regulatory agencies as needed.

    Qualifications (Skills & Competencies)

    + Ability to understand and precisely follow Standard Operating Procedures

    + Meticulous eye for detail; able to spot minor discrepancies/errors and immediately act to correct them

    + Able to set priorities and use time wisely to meet deadlines

    + Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team

    + Strong organization skills

    + Safety-minded in the way you organize your workspace and conduct yourself
