Probationary appointment
RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Ensuring that students perform their best academically by collaborating and consulting with educational team members, parents, and administration to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
+ Consulting with other professional staff and community-based providers to continue support for students at home
+ Participating in the CSE/504 process as appropriate.
+ Assisting students with personal goal setting, action planning, and progress-monitoring
+ Providing support in pathways for college and/or career readiness, and long-term post-secondary planning.
+ Monitoring student academic performance, behavior, and attendance and facilitating appropriate interventions.
+ Providing classroom guidance instruction to students in several areas including college and career readiness, study and organizational skills, self-awareness and identity development, and social/emotional learning.
+ Assisting administrators with mediating student conflicts and partnering with parents and other stakeholders to identify barriers to learning and designing personalized interventions.
+ Providing group and/or individual counseling using evidence-based interventions to address the diverse needs of students.
+ Maintaining knowledge of skills related to trauma, illness and grief, and providing crisis intervention for students as needed
+ May assist in creating Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans.
+ Performing such other duties as may be assigned by the Building Principal, Director of PPS, or Superintendent as deemed necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
SALARY: minimum $57,197.13 with masters per WEA Contract of agreement
Job Qualifications
+ New York State School Counselor certification
+ Demonstrated familiarity with and understanding of the many challenges facing youth and families and is committed to strengthening the connection between youth/families and schools.
+ Holds the skills necessary for and an appreciation of cultural and linguistic diversity as represented in the school community.
+ Appreciation that confidentiality and privacy is maintained with respect to all communications and records, unless exempted by law.
+ Preferred to have successful completion of all elements of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training
