Description Job Title: Government Contract Accountant
Job Description: As a Government Contract Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance and financial integrity in our government contract operations. You will collaborate closely with project managers, financial teams, and external auditors to maintain accurate financial records and reporting.
Government Contract Accounting & Finance – Work Scope & Job Duties
1. Regulatory Compliance
• Ensure adherence to FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation), DFARS, and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).
• Maintain accounting systems and practices that meet DCAA audit requirements.
• Monitor internal controls to ensure contract compliance and audit readiness.
2. Cost Accounting
• Track and allocate direct and indirect costs accurately by contract, project, or cost center.
• Monitor overhead rates, G& A, and fringe rates to ensure proper burdening of costs.
• Support Cost Impact Analyses and Incurred Cost Submissions (ICS).
3. Contract Financial Management
• Develop, monitor, and report on program budgets, forecasts, and actuals.
• Partner with Program Management to analyze EAC (Estimate at Completion) and ETC (Estimate to Complete).
• Prepare Variance Analysis Reports (VARs) to explain deviations from budget.
4. Proposal Support & Pricing
• Assist in developing compliant cost volumes and price proposals for new bids and modifications.
• Support development of Basis of Estimates (BOEs) and Pricing Narratives.
5. Billing & Revenue Recognition
• Prepare and review government contract invoices (cost-type, fixed-price, T& M).
• Ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP and contract terms.
• Track funding vs. billing status, and support contract closeout.
6. Audit and Documentation Support
• Prepare and maintain support for DCAA audits, DCMA reviews, and internal/external financial audits.
• Organize and maintain backup for timesheets, labor distribution, and job cost records.
7. Internal & External Reporting
• Generate reports for program reviews, internal stakeholders, and external government customers.
• Prepare inputs for monthly close, financial packages, and management reporting.
8. Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Work closely with contracts, procurement, HR, program management, and engineering to ensure financial alignment across departments.
• Help ensure compliance in subcontractor billing and cost flows.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or CMA certification preferred.
• Experience in government contract accounting within the aerospace or defense industry.
• Proficiency in government regulations including FAR, DFAR, and CAS.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and trends.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating across departments and with external stakeholders.
