Description

We are looking for a Senior Accountant for an exciting opportunity in Norfolk, Virginia, and contribute to the efficient management of our financial operations. This role requires a deep understanding of accounting principles and practices, as well as the ability to analyze and interpret complex financial data. The ideal candidate will bring strong attention to detail and expertise in compliance, auditing, and reporting processes.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain accurate and well-organized financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.

• Prepare journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts to support accurate financial reporting.

• Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual closings, including the preparation of financial statements.

• Facilitate internal and external audits by compiling and providing necessary documentation.

• Monitor budgets and expenditures to ensure alignment with organizational and funding agency requirements.

• Oversee grant accounting, cost allocations, and fund reporting to comply with regulatory standards.

• Lead or support month-end and year-end closing activities to ensure timely completion.

• Train and mentor entry-level accounting staff, fostering their growth and development.

• Conduct financial analysis and perform complex reconciliations to identify discrepancies and trends.

• Manage fixed asset accounting, including depreciation schedules and related reporting.

Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with leadership or supervisory experience being a plus.

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software, with experience in Yardi preferred.

• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing circumstances.

• Familiarity with grant reporting, budget monitoring, and compliance requirements.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey financial information effectively.

• High level of integrity and discretion when handling sensitive financial data.
