    The Strong’s Director of G2 oversees G2, a one-of-a-kind volunteer-driven program that engages over one hundred community volunteers who take part in child-directed play sessions with children in kindergarten through second grade. G2 pairs volunteers with play buddies who determine the direction of weekly in-school play sessions, celebrating their buddies’ choices and encouraging them to explore further. The Director of G2 directs the program within the lens of a passionate belief in the power of play to encourage self-expression, exploration, communication, and as a way for children to test boundaries and carve out a sense of identity. The Director of G2 is responsible for volunteer recruitment, volunteer management and scheduling, program coordination, program communications, and general administrative tasks relating to the planning and execution of all G2 activities while serving as a member of the broader public programs team.

     

    The Director of G2 must be highly organized, creative, playful, and passionate about strengthening young children’s social and emotional development through child-directed play while empowering adults to understand and connect with children. The Director of G2 will keep up with advances in subject matter related to child-directed play and intergenerational play as well as play-based education. The Director of G2 will also manage and oversee the program’s budget, purchasing, event organization, and other relevant duties as needed.

    + Together with the assistant vice president for education and public programs develop and implement annual plans for G2 programming strategies within budgetary restraints.

    + Arrange all site logistics including working with school staff in securing and managing space for program implementation and material storage and ensuring appropriate program set-up.

    + Distribute updated MOUs to principals and teachers to sign prior to the start of each school year.

    + Maintain relationships with school staff and other district personnel and provide evaluation reports as needed.

    + Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate site coordinators.

    + Drive and coordinate volunteer recruitment and staffing for all sites, onboard volunteers, develop a list of substitute volunteers, and train or guide program staff as necessary.

    + Serve as the lead coordinator and user expert in the museum’s Bloomerang volunteer management module.

    + Work with Institutional Advancement to steward, thank, and cultivate G2 donors and partners.

    + Plan volunteer in-services with site coordinators (fall orientation, two mid-year in-services, and an end of the year celebration).

    + Select, distribute, and organize program materials prior to the start of G2 sessions.

    + Record and maintain documentation of procedures and processes related to program development and implementation, including contact information for each site.

    + Maintain a shared document that lists pertinent information including our current schools, days/times of sessions, teacher names/room numbers, and volunteer/sub names, addresses, emails, phone numbers.

    + Act as the primary contact with our partner college programs.

    + Support G2 publicity and outreach activities as needed.

    + Regularly reflect on program facilitation and implementation.

    + Take initiative to identify and solve problems. Publicly support team decisions, even if they conflict with personal opinions.

    + Provide day-to-day administrative support to the assistant vice president for education and public programs, interacting regularly with other project participants, partner organizations, and various internal teams.

    + Welcome new staff and create a positive work environment.

    + Identify and act on opportunities to help and support the efforts of coworkers and staff from other teams.

    + Participate in all required museum trainings.

    + Attend public programs team and general staff meetings, and others, as needed.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    The candidate may have any combination of education and experience but should possess the required skills and knowledge for successful performance. Our general minimum requirements are:

     

    + Bachelor’s degree in education, play studies, or related field.

    + Experience successfully working planning, coordination, or programming, preferably in an educational environment.

    + Experience working with children and adults.

    + Flexibility to work both weekday and weekend shifts as job duties require.
