    General Requirements:

    Bachelor’s degree in in geographic information science or related discipline (e.g. Geography, Environmental Science, Geoscience). Master’s degree in Geography preferred. Four years of experience in a laboratory at a university, college or experience in a related area. Preferred qualifications include instructional experience in geosciences at the secondary level, demonstrated history in supervising student laboratory assistants, and the ability to advise undergraduate students. Relevant professional experience in database management and applications of GIS including cartographic visualization is a plus. In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience in administrating various geospatial software packages (e.g. ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ERDAS , ENVI ) and act as a liaison with SHSU Information Technology Department. The candidate should have experience with distance education technology, innovative teaching strategies, and the use of Learning Management Systems (e.g. Blackboard). A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

    Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:

    Performs highly complex administrative and supervisory program work for the Department of Geography and Geology.

    Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):

    Teaches 1-4 classes as needed. Coordinates the instruction of introductory laboratories in GIS . Maintains and operates a laboratory for the Department of Geology and Geography. Supervises lab instruction by undergraduate student lab assistants. Conducts weekly prep sessions with lab instructors to plan teaching of each weekly lab. Works with faculty members on lab manual revisions and computer testing programs. Maintains accurate inventory of software licenses, manages and approves users, manages data storage, updates software and licenses as necessary. Ensures computer labs are up to date with software and function as intended. Performs other related duties as assigned.
