    This position is eligible for teleworking , which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective hire date.

    Position Objective:

    The Manager – General & Technical Accounting, NYCTA/MABSTOA, is responsible for supporting the accounting, financial reporting, regulatory, and other reporting processes for NYCTA and MABSTOA. This position will assist with the completion on a timely basis of all expense accruals, journal entries preparation, supporting schedules, and analysis to investigate and explain variances. In addition, this position will assist in responding to audit requests and other inquiries relating to NYCTA and MaBSTOA.

    Responsibilities:

    + Select, develop, and motivate personnel within the department.

    + Provide career development for subordinates.

    + Provide prompt and effective coaching and counseling.

    + Responsible for the discipline/termination of employees when necessary.

    + Review the performance of staff.

    + Create a professional environment that respects individual differences and enables all employees to develop and contribute to their full potential.

    + Assist in the preparation, review, and submission of NYCTA and MaBSTOA financial packages for quarterly and annual MTAHQ financial statement consolidation.

    + Assist with the preparation of the annual financial statements for publication, monitor financial account analysis, and intercompany reconciliation.

    + Work with various departments like the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Treasury, and Capital Accounting for financial analysis, accruals, and other accounting-related transactions.

    + Support the monthly close by preparing journal entries with adequate support.

    + Review trend reports and provide explanations for account variances.

    + Generate, review, and reconcile reports.

    + Complete various account analyses to support transaction amounts and account balances.

    + Assist with internal and external auditor requests, review and provide proper supporting documentation and analysis to satisfy annual audits and other inquiries .

    + Meet with auditors to discuss and resolve any questions and provide clarification as needed.

    + Other duties or projects as assigned, including the implementation of new accounting standards and new reporting requirements.

    Required Qualifications:

    Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    + Must have knowledge of financial systems (e.g., PeopleSoft).

    + Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft applications, i.e., Excel, Word, Outlook.

    + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    + Excellent organizational and presentation skills.

    + Demonstrated ability to work with all internal levels within a given organization.

    + Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact well with external agencies.

    + Demonstrated ability to work in a high-profile, high-pressure environment effectively.

    + Demonstrated ability to complete short- and long-term projects effectively and as efficiently as possible.

    + Demonstrated analytical capabilities and quantitative skills.

    Required Education and Experience:

    + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting , Business, or Finance.

    + Minimum 5 years of related experience.

    + Demonstrated supervisory and/or leadership abilities.

    The F ollowing is/are preferred:

    + CPA certification and/or a Master’s degree in a related field.

    + At least 3 years in a managerial and/or leadership role.

    + Prior experience working in a large, multi-faceted, fast-paced organization or governmental body.
