Sr Ruby Developer (Onsite)

Our practice is seeking a highly qualified **Sr Ruby Developer** with experience in developing and building impactful, scalable, enterprise applications.

Roles & Responsibilities:

+ Design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems using Ruby on Rails and Sinatra

+ Work with AWS services such as SQS, ECS, ECR, and CloudWatch for containerized deployments and background job processing

+ Maintain and extend applications hosted on Heroku, including dyno scaling, add-ons, and build pipelines

+ Build and manage Redis-backed background workers, job queues, and caching mechanisms

+ Write maintainable, tested, and performant code across services and APIs

+ Diagnose and resolve production issues, optimize system performance, and ensure reliability

+ Collaborate with DevOps to improve CI/CD workflows and infrastructure observability

+ Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and agile development processes

Qualifications:

+ 3+ years of professional experience in Ruby, including production use of Rails and Sinatra

+ Strong understanding of RESTful API design, JSON serialization, and background job processing

+ Experience with Redis as a cache and job queue (e.g., Resque, Sidekiq)

+ Proficient with AWS services (especially ECS, ECR, SQS, IAM roles, secrets management)

+ Familiarity with deploying and managing applications on Heroku

+ Solid understanding of containerized development and deployment using Docker

+ Comfortable with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and ORMs (ActiveRecord)

+ Ability to write clear, well-tested, and well-documented code

Nice to Have

+ Experience with service observability (metrics, logging, tracing)

+ Familiarity with CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions, CircleCI, or CodePipeline

+ Background in event-driven architectures or distributed systems

+ Exposure to front-end frameworks (React, Angular) is a plus but not required

Salary and Other Compensation:

The annual salary for this position is between $81,3372K – $141,500K depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
