Located in Memphis, Tennessee, the Battery Materials Group is a fully integrated company for Sol-Rite™ formulated electrolytes used for lithium-ion batteries. Unique formulations are designed to meet customer needs and optimize battery performance. The Sol-Rite™ electrolyte formulation mainly consists of organic solvents such as ethylene carbonate and lithium salt electrolytes such as LiPF6. In addition, patented technologies and know-how are incorporated into the formulations to control the solid electrolyte interface on the cathode and anode.
Job Purpose
The production engineer takes full ownership for the operation of their assigned process unit, ensuring its success and continuous improvement in support of the plant’s annual commitments and strategic goals. To achieve this purpose, the Production Engineer develops, implements and optimizes manufacturing processes and procedures necessary for safety, quality, and efficiency.
Principal Accountabilities
+ Develop, revise, upgrade and implement standards and procedures within the operations team including EHS standards/policies, operating disciplines, plant trials/tests and standard operating conditions.
+ Provide guidance, training and troubleshooting expertise to optimize process operations, mitigate, learn from and recover from abnormal situations.
+ Work closely with the other functions and the shift teams to identify and deliver continuous improvements in all areas of the operation including EHS performance, reliability, quality and production costs.
+ Closely monitor process conditions, analyze and investigate deviations from standard. Develop and drive sustainable solutions to restore the process to full function.
+ Serve as the primary interface within their assigned plant unit for critical work processes including MOC, RCFA and capital project development.
+ Provide technical support for specific manufacturing unit(s) including monitoring performance metrics, troubleshooting and investigating product quality problems.
+ Manage unit Process Safety Management (PSM) aspects including Management of Change (MOC) process as needed.
+ Participate in incident investigations using Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and/or other tools.
+ Provide subject matter expertise / process knowledge of the unit(s) to all functions (e.g. Maintenance, Manufacturing Technology, Quality, etc.) in regard to unit standard operating conditions.
+ Provide expertise in the start-up and shutdown of the plant for planned and unplanned circumstances. Work with construction personnel to effectively install and startup plant equipment.
+ Assist the Technical Supervisor in developing plans to ensure cost effective use of assets.
+ Use six sigma or other defect elimination tools and lean tools to find solutions.
+ Collaborate with Technology regarding unit technical issues as well as determine the proper design or operation of plant assets.
+ Provide coaching & counseling for First Line Supervisors. Mentor other professionals that support production areas through teaching and communicating to improve organization’s skills to meet business needs.
+ Establish effective communications systems throughout the unit focused on sharing of information and engaging employees in the success of the facility.
+ Partner with finance team to track costs and determine business benefits of projects, and with external vendors to investigate plant improvement opportunities.
+ Role model the professionalism and behaviors expected in the unit because their actions or lack of actions affect the organization’s culture.
+ Keep a strong field presence to reinforce the importance of specific safety and operating procedures.
Knowledge / Skills / Experience
+ Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required.
+ 0 – 5 years of work experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.
+ Process Safety Management (PSM) experience preferred.
+ Lean / Six Sigma experience preferred.
+ Excellent computer skills and be able to become highly proficient in the use of modern digital tools.
+ Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to give group presentations and influence different levels of the organization.
+ Strong organizational skills and must be able to collect and analyze data, identify solutions, assess risk factors, and make sound business decisions.
+ Good interpersonal skills and the ability to positively coach and influence the behavior of others.

+ **The salary range for this position is $99,000 - $103,000. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.**
