    Job Summary:

    We are seeking a highly motivated Lead Software/Systems Engineer to oversee the technical execution of satellite mission integration into a ground control system. This position will serve as the technical focal point for software integration, test automation, mission script development, and interface configuration with mission unique software (MUS) and ground segment satellite operations core services.

     

    The Lead will support system integration in both classified and unclassified cloud environments, ensure compliance with system architecture baselines, and coordinate cross-team technical execution aligned to agile processes and government milestones.

    Key Responsibilities:

    System Design & Implementation:

    + Design, develop, and implement system architectures that meet performance, scalability, and security requirements.

    + Customer needs analysis, requirements capture and management, OPSCON/CONOPS development, traceability throughout from system to component level, modeling and simulation, verification criteria, requirements sell-off, deployment validation, O&M documentation.

    + Evaluate and integrate new technologies to enhance system capabilities and performance.

    + Ensure system designs align with security, compliance, and industry best practices.

    System Maintenance & Optimization:

    + Perform regular system maintenance, updates, and upgrades to ensure stability and security.

    + Analyze system performance and implement improvements to enhance efficiency.

    + Develop and implement system testing protocols to validate functionality and security.

    Troubleshooting & Support:

    + Diagnose and resolve system issues to minimize downtime and operational disruptions.

    + Provide technical support for network, hardware, and software configurations.

    + Document system issues, resolutions, and preventative measures to enhance future troubleshooting efforts.

    Project Management & Collaboration:

    + Manages and trades off performance, cost, schedule, risk and other system attributes to achieve an optimal solution that meets stakeholder needs and aligns with organizational goals.

    + Manage system integration projects, ensuring seamless deployment and interoperability of technologies.

    + Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess system requirements and provide technical solutions.

    + Work with stakeholders to prioritize system enhancements and align program goals.

    Documentation & Compliance:

    + Create and maintain detailed system documentation, including technical specifications, configurations, and user manuals.

    + Ensure compliance with security standards, data protection policies, and regulatory requirements.

    + Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation.

    Qualifications:

    + Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical field; Master’s degree preferred.

    + Experience: 3+ years of experience in systems engineering or a related field.

    + Clearance Requirement: Active Top Secret SCI (SAP access preferred)

    + Required Skills:

    + Software development and integration

    + Technical design and coding of software and scripts

    + Experience with Python, especially for mission scripting

    + CI/CD & DevOps

    + Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines

    + Experience with software integration and automated testing

    + Systems engineering

    + Working with ground systems and satellite operations

    + Integration of mission software with core services

    + Troubleshooting

    + Tier II/III support

    + Root cause analysis for tools, software, and interfaces

    + Documentation

    + Creating architecture diagrams

    + Software design documentation and version control

    + Compliance & Process

    + Experience with change management processes (e.g., ERBs, CCBs, CRs)

    + Knowledge of Certificate-to-Field (CtF) compliance requirements

    + Collaboration & Communication

    + Cross-functional coordination with government, internal, and external teams

    + Participation in customer reviews and technical meetings

    + Leadership

    + Mentoring junior engineers

    + Coordinating engineering team tasks

    + Preferred Skills:

    + Domain Knowledge

    + Understanding of satellite ground systems and TT&C (Telemetry, Tracking, and Command) procedures

    + Experience working in classified environments (security clearance may be implied)

    + Tools/Technologies

    + Familiarity with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar

    + Configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, or custom scripts)

    + Soft Skills

    + Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking

    + Ability to manage technical risk and perform technical assessments

    + Effective technical writing and presentation skills

    + Preferred Qualifications:

    + Professional software and systems engineering certifications or demonstration of continued education, preferred.

    + Prior experience working with DoD Satellite Operations ground platforms.

    + Prior experience working with DoD spacecraft.

    + Experience developing and integrating within a classified environment.

    + Working knowledge of DoD software documentation standards (e.g., SDD, IDD, STP, SVD).

    + Familiarity with Agile tools like Jira and version control systems (e.g., GitLab).

    + Exposure to Space Rapid Capability Office (SpRCO) mission environments.

    + Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

    + Office environment with occasional on-site work in data centers or with hardware systems.

    + May require after-hours or weekend work to address critical system issues or deployments.

    + Some travel may be necessary to support system installations or meet with stakeholders.

    + Ability to work at a desk and operate a computer for extended periods.

    + Occasional lifting of IT equipment or hardware components (up to 25 lbs ).

    Work Schedule:

    This is a full-time position, typically working 40 hours per week. Overtime may be required depending on operational needs.
