Office of Teaching & Learning - Numeracy
Job Focus Area
At the Louisiana Department of Education’s Office of Teaching and Learning, our vision is for all students to have improved outcomes through high-quality instruction and interactions by an effective teacher supported by leaders and families. In the Division of Numeracy, we achieve this by supporting local educators with the implementation of high-quality curricular materials, standards, and best practices. This position will focus on providing support to instructional leaders across the state, with a focus on improving numeracy outcomes through direct coaching of system leaders, school leaders, and teachers.

The preferred candidate should have previous leadership experience in math education, experience coordinating large-scale projects and working across complex systems, math content expertise, and an educational background and/or content-related work experience in the area of math. Preference will be given to candidates with the following experience:
•Strong knowledge base in math content, Louisiana K-12 Student Standards for Mathematics, and in-depth understanding of latest research in math education
•Strong oral and written communication skills as well as effective organizational skills, maximizing the use of technology, and strong project management and customer service skills
•Ability to work as part of a team
•Ability to engage in the observation and review implementation to refine strategy and plan through an ongoing improvement cycle
•Experience in collaborating with multiple stakeholders to deliver a common and consistent message to the field in support of Louisiana’s academic strategy
•Efficient and effective use of various software systems (Microsoft Office, Excel, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Forms, etc.)
•Previous instructional or leadership coaching experience
•Graduate level degree in a program of study with a focus on mathematics education, math curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, or similar
Minimum Qualifications
Seven years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR
Six years of full-time work experience plus four years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR
A bachelor's degree plus four years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR
An advanced degree plus three years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services.

Job Duties and Other Information
As an Education Consultant 3, you will support statewide efforts to improve student outcomes in mathematics. In this role, you will:
•Provide job-embedded field support to assigned school systems and school leaders on effective numeracy instruction and support local leaders in implementing numeracy initiatives.
•Foster relationships of support and collaboration with each assigned school system to develop and understand their numeracy goals and build the strategy for implementing numeracy initiatives.
•Develop resources and tools to support instructional leaders and improve math outcomes in K-12 classrooms.
•Develop and deliver professional learning statewide on using quality numeracy resources and tools through established ILT structures. Topics include high-quality curriculum, collaborative planning time, numeracy coaching cycles and assessments, and meeting state and federal policy requirements.
•Develop guidance documents and tools to support school systems in creating local numeracy plans. This includes support for developing, monitoring, and tracking progress towards goals.
•Collaborate with system leaders, school leaders, and numeracy coaches to develop a system- or school-wide focus on math achievement goals.
•Ensure that curriculum, instruction, and assessments are monitored and adjusted systematically at both the school and system levels in response to data from multiple sources, such as student work samples, student cognitive data, teacher observation data, and individual growth and coaching plans for teachers and students.
•Create an aligned, coherent set of instructional tools and support for numeracy initiatives, including but not limited to school system and school leader guidance, local numeracy plans, family numeracy engagement strategies, and numeracy coaching supports.
•Research and evaluate current numeracy programs, laws, and regulations as related to instructional practice, curriculum ,and screening as required by current state policy and legislation.
•Collaborate with other teams tasked with implementing the LDOE academic strategy to develop and implement a plan for providing an aligned, coherent set of tools for numeracy support for grades K through twelve.
•Develop and conduct interactive sessions with the field to ensure effective implementation of initiatives and programs with administrators, leaders, principals, and teachers.
•Plan, conduct and evaluate staff development and in-service training (including national, state, and regional workshops, hearings, and conferences) for personnel in the Department of Education, local education agencies, colleges and universities, technical colleges, special committees, and task forces, professional associations and organizations, special interest groups.
•Develop strategy, scope, and sequence of technical assistance and professional development activities provided by Department staff, vendors, and consultants to support the state’s grade K through twelve numeracy initiatives.
•Assist in the implementation of specific projects to support the goals established by the Division of K-12 Numeracy, which may include strategic planning, grants, contracts, and administration.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment. The person hired for this position is expected to regularly report to the Baton Rouge office. Current permanent classified state employees may be required to accept a probationary appointment, if selected.
Work Schedule:Work days are Monday - Friday; work hours will be determined.
Compensation:The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
**Note regarding the advertised pay range: The Education Consultant series have a special entrance rate that is above the minimum hire rate for these positions. The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make over their career andnot the maximum amount we are allowed to pay a new hire .
