Position Summary:
The Health Office Aide assists the school nurse in fostering good physical and mental health practices by performing a variety of clerical and basic health-related tasks.
Supervisor:
The Health Office Aide is directly responsible to the Nurse Coordinator and building principal or other designated administrator. First aid, emergency treatment, and documentation are overseen by the school nurse-in-charge.
Qualifications:
+ High school graduate or equivalency.
+ Physical Condition commensurate with the demands of the position including but not limited to:
+ Sitting at a desk and typing
+ Pushing a wheelchair
+ Lifting students/supplies up to 50 pounds
+ Running or quickly walking to emergencies throughout the school building and/or outside grounds
+ Current certifications in the following: First Aid, CPR/AED and AED (Adult & Child)
+ Basic typing & computer skills in word processing, data entry, and understanding of database management and spreadsheets, use of email in Microsoft and Google formats.
+ Communicates and works well with students (general and special education), teachers, parents, co-workers and others in the community.
Essential Responsibilities:
Patient Care
+ Administers basic first aid to students or school personnel.
+ Promotes safety and protects the optimal health status of children.
+ Assists the School Nurse with physical appraisals of students, such as vision and hearing tests, scoliosis screening, and height and weight recording.
+ Assists with the arrangements for transporting students in emergency situations.
+ Assists in emergency evacuation (radiation, fire, bomb) as instructed by the principal or other designated administrator and emergency procedures per building protocols.
+ Administers medication if trained.
+ For sick or injured students, assists students with physical care tasks and health-related activities as appropriate. Examples could include: feeding, dressing, transfers between equipment, and toileting.
Clerical
+ Assists with the clerical functions of the Health Office, as determined by the school nurse or nurse coordinator
+ Attendance responsibilities per building protocol.
Communication
+ Maintains communication regarding the health status of students using the procedures established by the School Nurse.
+ Maintain confidentiality and security of health information, both manual and electronic.
Professional Development
+ Attends building and district meetings and workshops as required by the building principal or
other designated administrators.
+ Specific and timely job training will be provided by the school district.
Performs such other position-related duties assigned by the building principal or other designated administrator during unusual or emergency situations.
Salary: As per current Educational Support Association Agreement (ESA) as well as education and experience.
