    As a Mastectomy Fitter you will be evaluating, educating, and measuring patients for post mastectomy bras, prothesis and upper and lower OTC and custom lymphedema compression garments. Assesses new lines of products and place orders with vendors. Post charges for products and services rendered in billing systems. You will work with members of PT and the oncology team to support patient needs.

Located near Phoenix in Gilbert, Ariz., Banner Gateway Medical Center offers 286 private rooms, 13 operating suites, a 46-bed emergency department and shares a campus with the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center. Our WIS and NICU services support an average of 4,000 deliveries per year. Key specialties include oncology, obstetrics, bariatric surgery, emergency and other services that focus on meeting the changing needs of the dynamic and growing community we serve.

     

    Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center Located in Gilbert, Ariz. (the Phoenix Metro area) on the Banner Gateway Campus, the center provides world-class care for oncology patients - both inpatient and outpatient - and has also brought leading oncology programs to the Banner Gateway campus including designation as a Stem Cell Transplant Center of Excellence and comprehensive Head & Neck cancer care. Our capabilities include five linear accelerator vaults, a brachytherapy vault, an advanced diagnostic imaging suite with PET/CT scan, more than 70 infusion bays, a cryopreservation lab and much more. Our inpatient medical oncology unit also incorporates a program that utilizes the electronic surveillance partnership in caring for the patient, where remote nurses have the ability to interact with patients via two-way audio-video to assist the bedside nurse with patient care.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    This position is responsible for higher level coordination of durable medical equipment (DME) and oversight such as fitting patients with prosthetic breast forms and related products and to ensure successful mastectomy prosthetic outcomes, patient health and quality of life. The position is also responsible for budgetary goals related to retail business operations, sales, and development which contribute to a profitable operation.

    CORE FUNCTIONS

    1. Assesses new lines of DME that would be suitable for the patient population served. Orders and maintains necessary stock levels - places all custom and ready wear orders.

    2. Assists patients in properly fitting prosthetic breast forms and related products. Educates patients on the use and maintenance of prosthetics and/or related products. Follows up with patients to ensure successful mastectomy prosthetic outcomes, patient health and quality of life.

    3. Works with other members of the oncology program to provide education and support to patients and caregivers. Provides bedside fittings to post mastectomy/lumpectomy patients.

    4. Measures and fits patients for lymphatic and vascular compression garments. Follows up with patients and referring physician/therapist to ensure successful outcomes.

    5. Obtains required patient and insurance information for pre-registration, benefit verification and pre-authorization. Verifies that prescription information is complete and accurate. Schedules fitting appointments in system. Completes assessment notes on patient records. Posts charges for durable medical equipment (DME) and other applicable medical products in system.

    6. May assist with sales and retail operations, including inventory, merchandise display, customer service and sales records and deposits. Assists in the planning and development of department actions to achieve budgetary/service goals. Assists with training staff and volunteers to perform the work required to achieve these goals.

    7. Provides in-service training and external presentations, when necessary, to medical staff and/or community organizations regarding products and services available to assist patients through treatment and recover.

    8. This position has responsibility for interacting with patients, families, physicians, and staff in various departments throughout the facility and organization. External contacts may include employees of other healthcare organizations, community providers and agencies concerning the health care of the patient. Also interacts with the physician offices in order to report, inquires or clarify information.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Must possess knowledge as normally obtained through the completion of a High School diploma.

     

    Certification as a Mastectomy Fitter. Knowledge and experience in fitting other DME products offered at boutique. Must complete continuing education to maintain certification and/or current practices.

     

    Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, staff and community members and the ability to perform duties in a manner consistent with departmental scope of services and standards. Basic knowledge of medical terminology, computer literacy and keyboarding skills are required.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Current certification as a Mastectomy Fitter. Associate's Degree and prior supervisory and/or working experience in healthcare, including familiarity with Medicare and private insurance companies is preferred. Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
