    GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

    As the Associate Digital Archivist, you will assist in the management and maintenance of the Museum Archives which retains the museum’s business, legal and historical analog and digital records. You will provide research support, promote archives services, and collaboratively oversee the management and maintenance of databases and digital repositories. You will focus on the cross implementation of existing Preservica and ArchivesSpace software systems for the Museum’s digital collections.

     

    This is a position with an established end-date or time frame. Time frames will begin upon hire: 2-Years.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

    + Management and maintenance of the databases and digital repository utilized by The Met Museum Archives to manage collections and historical information (ArchivesSpace, Microsoft Access database, Preservica) including API management and integration, maintaining and implementing access controls and standards, managing external submissions, and coordinating data and asset migrations and ingest.

    + In conjunction with Managing Archivist, advise curatorial and administrative departments on digital records management practices; assist with maintaining the standards and protocols related to retention, review and disposal of digital museum records

    + Create accession records in ArchivesSpace for newly acquired archival collections. Assist with occasional outreach and training for the software for curatorial departments.

    + Process and file digital records of the Counsel's Office, the Board of Trustees and other Archives holdings and create collection finding aids and inventories.

    + Assist with supervision of work of interns, volunteers and/or support staff

    + Scan Archives documents to support research projects

    + Other related duties

    REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

    + MS in Information/Library Science, or MA in History with Archival Management certificate

    + 3-5 years of professional experience in an archives or special collections library

    + Demonstrated knowledge of Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS), Encoded Archival Description (EAD), Open Archival Information System (OAIS) reference model, and other professional standards

    + Successfully demonstrated experience creating accession records and archival finding aids utilizing ArchivesSpace

    + Successfully demonstrated experience working with Preservica, ideally at the management level

    + API management for digital platforms preferred (ArchivesSpace; Preservica)

    + Python knowledge preferred (including understanding the syntax, functions, and libraries of the programming language)

    + Knowledge of Microsoft Access databases preferred (create, manage, and utilize relational databases within the Microsoft Access application, including the ability to design tables, build queries, create forms for data input, generate reports, and apply basic database manipulation techniques like filtering, sorting, and data validation)

    + Experience with The Museum System (TMS)

    + Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Access

    + Strong oral and written communication skills

    + Background in art history preferred.

    COMPENSATION RANGE:

    + Pay Range: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 / Annually

The specific compensation offered to a candidate may be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, special licensing or qualifications, and other factors.

    Location Requirements

    At time of employment, employees are expected to be located within commuting distance of the Museum. “Commuting distance” means that they are located in one of following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania (the “Tri-state and PA” areas), and be able to commute to and from the Museum in a single day.
