Per Diem Direct Support Professional (Rockland County)

About the Position

YAI is hiring Per Diem Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to work in several of our Westchester County locations. DSPs work closely with people of all ages who have intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The ideal candidate possesses a wide range of skills and is eager to promote YAI’s mission of supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live, love, work, and learn in their communities.  Depending on the supports needed, DSPs may work in a person’s home, in their family’s home, in a YAI residence, at a day habilitation center, or out in the community.

We are looking for compassionate and reliable people to join our team of dynamic individuals who every day choose to make a difference in the lives of others. All job-specific knowledge, strategies, and skills will be provided via YAI’s “best-in-class” training program. As Per diem, you have the flexibility to set your own schedule using a scheduling app downloaded to your phone. Choose the shifts/hours you want to work based on your timetable.

Schedule: Flexible (minimum of 24 hours per month)

Compensation: $18.00/hour to $19.05/hour (depending on experience)

Key Responsibilities

+ To provide direct care services as needed. This includes, but is not limited to, the provision of counseling, training in ADLs (Assisted Daily Living skills), assistance with personal care, medical, dietary, social, sexual, recreational, financial, habilitative and other needs within the program.

+ Ensure the health, safety, and wellness of the people we support.

+ Build and maintain positive relationships.

+ Assist the people we support in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities through teaching, self-advocacy, and emotional support.

+ Facilitate community integration, recreational activities, and socialization.

Qualifications and Requirements

+ High School Diploma or GED preferred

+ Work or life experience in the I/DD field is a plus (not mandatory)

+ Ability to complete three to five weekdays of paid New York State-mandated OPWDD training during normal business hours.
