    Wayne State University is searching for an experiencedAthletic Coach I - Women's Soccer Head Coachat its Detroit campus location.

    Wayne State University believes that intercollegiate athletics are an important and wholesome adjunct to the principal purposes of the University: (1) the advancement of knowledge through research and investigation; and (2) the dissemination of knowledge through teaching. To that end, participants in intercollegiate athletics must be, first and foremost, students whose fundamental is to obtain a sound education.

    Essential functions (job duties):

    LEADERSHIP:Administering, managing, and leading the women’s soccer program at Wayne State University in such a manner as to always reflect positively on the image and reputation of the University. Communicate skillfully with colleagues, subordinates, and student-athletes. Maintains self-control and set an example for sportsmanlike conduct in relationships with your team, officials, administration, and opponents in victory or defeat. Provide clear direction of responsibility and authority. Attend and contribute to department meetings and functions.

     

    COACHING/INDIVIDUAL AND TEAM INSTRUCTION: Provide individual and team instruction to student-athletes on rules and fundamentals, pre-competition activities, skill attainment, techniques and methods required to demonstrate satisfactory performance in a safe manner and team concepts that are specific to team needs. Assess student-athletes skill attainment demonstrated during practice, competition and in film. Review video of opponent performance and subsequently design individual and team instruction for student-athletes. Determine specific daily practice activities that are organized, creative and valuable for the student-athletes. Keep informed of modern trends, techniques, and strategies, transferring the knowledge in the development and implementation of game strategy and position assignments. Supervise, coordinate, and evaluate practice sessions and related activities with proper attention to players and their physical well-being. Attend workshops and training sessions for the purpose of researching methods to provide student-athletes with training and instruction on rules, fundamentals, team concepts, physical health, safety, skill attainment, conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Emphasize values of competitive athletics, acceptable personal behavior, decision-making and lasting values to everyone. Always serves as an exemplary professional.

     

    RECRUITING: Evaluating, recruiting, training and coaching student ­ athletes to compete successfully against the highest level of NCAA intercollegiate competition (Division I and Division II) and develop and maintain a quality women’s soccer program. Abides by all recruiting rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA. Work collaboratively with compliance and academics to effectively recruit new student-athletes that can achieve success academically and athletically.

     

    NCAA RULES/COMPLIANCE:Being knowledgeable of and assuring and monitoring compliance by all student­ athletes and assistant coaches in the program with, applicable governing constitutions, by-laws, rules, policies, interpretations and regulations of the NCAA, the University and any conference (GLIAC) or organization.

     

    ACADEMICS: In coordination with the Academic Resource Center, monitor academic progress throughout the year to ensure academic success, eligibility, retention, and graduation. Follow the academic standards and requirements of the University regarding the recruiting and eligibility of prospective and enrolled student-athletes for the women’s soccer program. All academic standards, requirements and policies of the University shall also be observed by the Employee and members of his staff, including assistant coaches.

     

    BUDGET AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT: Plan and utilize operating, financial aid, and salary budget according to department procedures and NCAA regulations. Monitor budget and expenses routinely and ensures timely turnaround of team credit cards and expense reimbursements. Keep program within expense budget parameters.

     

    SUPERVISION: Supervise all assistant coaches and conduct performance reviews with them annually.

     

    COMMUNITY/PUBLIC RELATIONS: Actively support student-athlete participation in community outreach efforts. Develop and maintain positive relationships with interested segment of the community. Performing such promotional services, including but not limited to radio and television shows, product endorsements and personal appearances, as directed from time to time by the University.

     

    SCHEDULING: Advise the Director of Athletics or her designee regarding the scheduling of contests and opponents.

     

    FUNDRAISING/ALUMNI ENGAGEMENT: Successfully implement a fundraising plan that achieves annual fundraising goals set by administration. Conduct fundraising activities to supplement program budget and actively engage with alumni and friends of the University.

     

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Performing other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or her designee.

    Qualifications:

    Education

    Requires a bachelor’s degree. Master's degree is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
