    Distinguishing Features of the Class

     

    Under the direct supervision of the Research and Development Administrator, the purpose of the position is to promote DMMHA's Supportive Services Programs by working with local agencies, businesses, and Section 8/Public Housing families, uniting service providers with families in need. Employees in this classification perform skilled work. Position is responsible for explaining program eligibility requirements; conducting workshops; matching participants with service providers; maintaining records; and preparing a variety of reports. Performs related work as required.

     

    Designs and implements a self-sufficiency program for purposes of reducing or eliminating need for welfare assistance and/or assisting elderly resident population to continue to live independently in place in accordance with HUD guidelines. Responsible for all applicable program requirements, including monitoring, facilitation, and reporting.

     

    Acceptable Experience and Training

     

    + Graduation from college with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Urban Development; or

    + Graduation from college with an Associate's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Urban Development and one year of municipal housing experience; or

    + High school diploma or equivalent and two years of municipal housing experience; or

    + Graduation from college with an Associate's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Urban Development and two years of other related experience; or

    + High school diploma or equivalent and four years of other related experience.

    Required Special Qualifications

     

    + Candidates for positions in this class must pass a post-employment offer, physical examination and drug screen.

     

    Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)

     

    + Writes, publicizes, and disseminates information concerning the availability and nature of DMMHA's Supportive Service Programs for low-income families.

    + Works closely with Housing Services staff. Conducts home visits and/or office visits with program participants.

    + Works with the Program Coordinating Committee (PCC) and with local service providers, to assure that program participants are linked to the supportive services they need to achieve self-sufficiency or to live independently.

    + Provides case management and ensures that the services included are provided on a regular, ongoing and satisfactory basis, and that participants are fulfilling their responsibilities.

    + Works to generate correspondence, copies, verification, enrollment information and program participation as caseload requires.

    + Surveys, assesses, and monitors program participants, and recommends additional programs and services to the Housing Authority to improve housing opportunity.

    + Maintains networking contact with community resources.

    + Assists in preparing grant applications when appropriate and as required.

    + Prepares and submits required HUD, PCC, and City of Des Moines Municipal Housing Authority reports.

    + Performs all other duties as assigned.
