    Functions as an integral part of the Crisis Intervention Team, providing assessment and crisis intervention services to members of the community in the context of law enforcement interactions, clinical consultation to patrol deputies and others, and follow up services as indicated. Collaborates with community partners, and assists with program development. The position is located in the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, Patrol Services Division.

    SHIFT INFORMATION

    Either Sunday - Wednesday or Wednesday - Saturday, ten-hour shifts. This position primarily works day shift hours, but flexibility is required.

    Essential Functions

    + Primary duties will be assisting patrol deputies with mental health related calls for service, completing psychiatric assessments and applying crisis intervention techniques as needed to ensure the safety of involved persons;

    + Identifying necessary and appropriate community resources and assisting with formulating safety plans for community members at risk of harm due to mental or behavioral health crisis;

    + Provide follow up services, by phone and in person, to high risk jail releases and public CIT interactions;

    + Document interactions in applicable report formats;

    + Build and maintain community and agency relationships to support communication, collaboration, and resource capacity building;

    + Compile and manage pertinent data to illustrate CIT program outcomes.

     

    Additional Functions

     

    + May provide training and education to involved staff;

    + Attends relevant meetings and serves on committees, as requested;

    + Performs related work and other duties as assigned.

    Job Requirements

    + A Master's Degree in Social Work or Counseling from an accredited college or university;

    + Must be a Licensed Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Idaho;

    + Current Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the state of Idaho highly preferred;

    + If hired as an LMSW or LPC, the incumbent must actively pursue their clinical licensure;

    + Skill in creating a respectful atmosphere;

    + Skill in rapidly developing rapport with clients;

    + Skill in assessment and crisis intervention;

    + Knowledge of program development;

    + Knowledge of systems theory and background;

    + Knowledge of physical and mental health threat assessments;

    + Current knowledge of the use of psychiatric medications;

    + Current knowledge of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5);

    + Ability to collaborate with a variety of agencies within the community;

    + Ability to maintain strong professional boundaries;

    + Ability to plan and organize work;

    + Ability to understand and interpret laws and regulations;

    + Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;

    + Ability to develop and sustain collaborative working relationships with other members of the Sheriff’s Office staff and work as part of a team to accomplish agency goals.

    Other Requirements

    + Must be willing to work a variety of hours including weekends;

    + Must pass an oral examination, polygraph examination, credit and background check prior to hire;

    + Must adhere to the Code of Ethics for Ada County Sheriff’s Offices, the NASW Code of Ethics, and the Code of Ethics of the American Counseling Association;

    + This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.

     

    Work Environment & Physical Demands

     

    + Position frequently requires a combination of sitting and standing to accomplish tasks and the ability to lift up to 20 lbs.;

    + Position requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes permitting the employee to accomplish assigned tasks within a variety of work settings and environmental conditions;

    + The work ‘area’ can include an office environment, public contacts, clinical facilities, as well as contact with inmates within a jail facility;

    + The assigned duties will also include field work, embedded with a CIT officer, responding to in-progress calls for service.

    + It is important to note that the dynamic, ever-changing environment of law enforcement contacts is inherently unpredictable. The safety of our employees is a matter of great concern. The field work assignments will generally always be conducted with a uniformed CIT Officer present.
