    Maintenance Supervisor - Crane/Rigging and Transportation

    Job Summary

    The Marathon Los Angeles -Carson Refinery located in Carson , California has an opening for a Maintenance Supervisor. This position will supervise and lead maintenance work groups, typically of union-represented crafts overseeing cranes, straddle carriers, transportation vehicles and other lifting equipment. The Supervisor will be responsible for safe and efficient execution of maintenance field work in an environmentally compliant manner and within company guidelines. This position will oversee Marathon equipment assets such as cranes, straddle carriers, transportation vehicles and other lifting equipment and assures equipment is inspected, regulatory compliant, and maintained in good working order. The available schedule is Monday-Thursday - 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM and on-call coverage rotation for one full week including weekends is required approximately every 3 months and has to support work activities after hours when required.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Supervise and lead work group. Accountable for fair and uniform application of policies and procedures. Supervise a team of 20+ direct reports, both company and contractors. Contribute to a positive and respectful workplace environment

    + Supervise crane, rigging and transportation work team to ensure work is efficiently executed without incident in an environmentally compliant manner. Assist in setting schedules. Monitor and appraise progress to ensure productivity, work quality and schedule adherence. Ensure team understands work scope and performance expectations.

    + Promote proactive reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) focus. Assist with troubleshooting. Ensure work orders are satisfactorily completed and properly closed out. Communicate daily activities related to manpower, accomplishments, and problem areas to management.

    + Ensure assigned craft personnel are adequately trained for their job assignment. Identify training needs and participates in development of training programs for craft skill pool.

    + Maintain visible and active field presence to promote safe working environment and ensure adherence to safe work practices, Participate in audits and near-miss/incident investigations. Follow-up on safety issues until closure.

    + Coordinate with planning and scheduling to ensure appropriateness of job packages. Ensure materials used comply with current engineering standards. Identifies and resolves delays that would prevent schedule adherence.

    + Participate in maintenance cost control including challenging need for discretionary work. Participate as a member of Maintenance leadership team. Work collaboratively with other supervisors, planning & scheduling, and reliability teams to develop repair strategies and maintain reliability of refinery plant mechanical equipment in support of continuous operations.

    + Maintain current, accurate and complete records for assigned area.

     

    Education, Experience and Skills

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Must have a High school diploma or GED. ( Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)

    + Must have a minimum of 10 years of experience as a Crane and Rigging operator. Must have strong knowledge of a range of skills such as cranes, straddle carriers, transportation vehicles and other lifting equipment in order to lead others.

    + Must have strong knowledge of Safety Standards to lead others safely and identify hazardous situations and develop mitigations

    + Must have good organizational skills to optimize productivity and performance, attention to detail,

    + Must have good interpersonal, communication, leadership and teaching/mentoring skills

    + Must be a team player to work collaboratively and be customer focused.

    + Must be a self-started with a proactive and optimistic approach to work

    + Must be resilient and adaptable while showing enthusiasm in a dynamic work environment.

    + Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.

    + Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.

    + Must have a valid driver’s license. (MPC determines valid status.)

    + Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.

    + Travel Requirement is 5% or less.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Project Management Methodology is preferred.

    + Previous supervisor experience is preferred

    + Heavy Equipment Operating Certification is preferred

    + Maintenance experience in refinery and/or petrochemical facility is preferred.

     

    This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.
