Position Summary
Job Summary
Position will support the City Architect with design review processes and provide architectural assistance and technical expertise to City staff and the public regarding the design of the urban realm. This position will coordinate with a variety of City departments and divisions to implement effective urban design strategies that actively shape our City's growth. Position Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
+ Performs design review for projects selected for City grant funding (e.g., CDBG and HOME,) land transfers, and other local initiatives (e.g., CDBG and HOME), providing design expertise and technical feedback to achieve successful urban design.
+ Reviews and provides feedback on projects undergoing Administrator’s Approval in collaboration with Current Planning and the City’s Zoning and Subdivision Ordinance and Comprehensive Plan.
+ Reviews select Regional Center and Certi?cate of Appropriateness (COA) applications and provides urban design expertise and technical assistance to Planning and IHPC sta?, as well as petitioners.
+ Provides design expertise and technical assistance relative to projects/developments requesting City incentives and/or subsidy, including but not limited to tax abatement and/or tax increment ?nancing, and work with the business/property owner to achieve successful urban design.
+ Collaborates with the Division of Programming and Public Space on long-term vision planning for DMD-owned properties, including, but not limited to the Downtown Canal, Lugar Plaza, Union Station, Georgia Street, Transportation Center, and the Indiana Repertory Theatre.
+ Organizes and prepares graphic and written materials as requested.
+ Must maintain confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Urban Design, Urban Planning, or related field with two (2) years of relevant experience in design of the built environment. Two (2) years of experience may be substituted with an applicable Master's Degree in Architecture, Urban Design, Urban Planning, or related field.
Membership in the American Institute of Architects or other related professional organization is preferred.
Must have a strong knowledge of design principles, best practices, and technologies to achieve impactful and sustainable urban design outcomes. Must understand how new developments visually and functionally integrate with the existing built environment and streetscape, emphasizing pedestrian-focused design that prioritizes walkability, accessibility, and vibrant public spaces. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as with other divisions and City departments. Ability to organize and lead meetings, as well as provide tactful, constructive feedback and recommendations. Must have effective writing skills, strong problem-solving skills, an ability, and openness to collaborate across sectors. Public speaking experience and effective presentation skills preferred.
Working knowledge of Microsoft software is required.
