    Sterile Processing Opportunity – Full-Time, Day Shift with Rotation

     

    Are you passionate about patient safety and precision? UPMC Williamsport is currently hiring for a Sterile Processing role that plays a vital part in supporting surgical excellence and infection control.

     

    This full-time position offers day shift hours with rotational coverage, providing a dynamic and rewarding work environment.

     

    Final job title and placement within our career ladder will be determined based on your education, experience, and at the discretion of the hiring manager at the time of offer.

    Purpose:

    To perform those duties necessary for the proper decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, distribution and documentation of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment according to established procedures. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

    Instrument & Equipment Processing

    + Prepare and assemble surgical trays and equipment according to established tray listings.

    + Clean and decontaminate reusable instruments and equipment using manual and mechanical methods.

    + Inspect, test, and package instruments for sterilization.

    + Monitor and document sterilization parameters to ensure proper function and compliance.

    Sterilization & Inventory Management

    + Operate and troubleshoot decontamination and sterilization equipment.

    + Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles and inventory.

    + Set up case carts with required supplies for surgical procedures.

    + Manage inventory levels and ensure timely restocking of supplies.

    Compliance & Safety

    + Adhere to departmental policies and procedures related to infection control, sterile processing, and safety.

    + Demonstrate awareness of cost containment through efficient use of time, materials, and resources.

    + Participate in performance improvement initiatives and quality assurance activities.

    Teamwork & Communication

    + Collaborate with surgical and nursing teams to ensure timely delivery of sterile instruments.

    + Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors using solid verbal and written skills.

    + Participate as a proactive team member and take accountability for individual responsibilities.

    Professional Development

    + Engage in ongoing education and training to enhance skills and knowledge.

    + Mentor and support colleagues through knowledge sharing and positive communication.

    + Demonstrate commitment to professional growth and continuous improvement.

    + High school Graduate/GED

    + OR1 year of experience with UPMC

    + Six months of healthcare experience required

    + Currently enrolled in an Accredited Surgical Technician/Sterile Processing Program Preferred.

    + If grandfathered as a technician who does not hold certification, must complete 10 hours of continuing education to remain qualified as a Central Sterile Technician on an annual basis.

    + Certified staff are required to complete 10-12 hours of continuing education as a condition of maintaining certification, as determined by the certifying body. Staff pending certification within 18 months of hire are not required to complete continuing education until certified.

    + Must be able to stand for all shift hours and be able to pick up, push, pull etc. 35 pounds. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:** Employees active in a Central Sterile position, on or before the effective date 12/27/2020, at a healthcare facility, are grandfathered regarding certification and will not need to obtain it unless they move into a different position that would require certification. Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution or Certified Registered Central Service Technician or International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management certification required in our PA and NY facilities (MD is excluded). New employees in our PA and NY facilities (MD is excluded) will have 18 months from date of hire to obtain required certification.
