    Are you an experienced Genetic Counselor looking to take the next step in your career? UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, a nationally recognized leader in women's health and genetics, is seeking a Genetic Counselor II to join our dynamic laboratory team. This full-time, daylight position (Monday through Friday) offers the opportunity to play a key role as a clinical liaison between ordering providers and laboratory personnel, ensuring high-quality genetic services and patient care.

     

    As part of a collaborative and expert-driven environment, you will help bridge clinical and laboratory operations, contributing your expertise to support complex case interpretation, test coordination, and provider education.

     

    Applicants will be placed into the appropriate job title and salary based on their individual experience and education. Genetic Counselor I's salary begins at $36.78 hourly.

    Responsibilities:

    + Completes all duties of a Genetic Counselor I.

    + Submits an abstract (either poster or platform) for a professional medical society meeting.

    + Primary role is to work as a clinical liaison between ordering providers and laboratory personnel.

    + Provides customer service to clinicians for genetic tests offered.

    + Establishes and maintains standard operating procedures (SOP) surrounding tests offered including clinical utility, accessioning of samples, report writing, bench workflows, and policies.

    + Generates reports for whole exome sequencing, hereditary cancer, cardiovascular and prenatal testing.

    + Performs detailed clinical case review. Participates in final variant interpretation in the context of phenotypic information and family histories.

    + Promotes ongoing menu enhancements to keep pace with evolving clinical needs and expanding genetic knowledge.

    + Participates in ongoing product development initiatives.

    + Curates specialty next-generation sequencing (NGS) panels.

    + Strives to continuously improve workflow processes.

    + Works closely with laboratory personnel regarding specimen collection and transport.

    + Responsible for following the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.

    + Participates in professional activities and educational offerings to maintain credentialing and stay abreast of evolving understanding, practices, and recommendations relevant to clinical and laboratory genetic counseling.

    + Acts as mentor and/or clinical supervisor to genetic counseling graduate students from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health.

    + Master of Science in Human Genetics/Genetic Counseling from an American Board of Genetics Counseling (ABGC) accredited institution.

    + Three years experience as a genetic counselor required.

    Preferred Skills and Experience:

    + Experience in clinical or laboratory genetic counseling.

    + Proficiency in synthesizing published medical literature.

    + Familiarity with resources of genomic data sets and analysis tools, such as gnomAD browser, UCSC Genome browser, HGMD, Mastermind, ClinVar, NCBI databases.

    + Knowledge of social, legal, and ethical issues in genetics, specifically related to germline genetic testing and reporting.

    + Ability to clearly present information through oral or written communication.

    + Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    + American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) certified genetic counselor who holds a PA license.
