    Job Description

    Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Our MISSION is to help ensure the security of the United States and its allies by providing high-hazard experimentation and incident response capabilities through operations, engineering, education, field, and integration services and by acting as environmental stewards to the Site’s Cold War legacy.     Responsiblities

     

    The Document Management and Publication Services department has a vacancy for a highly skilled Principal Technical Writer in support of the development of new documents and the revision of documents.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Develops, writes, reviews, and edits company documents according to established format and quality standards.

    + Examines documents to ensure that the material is structured and formatted logically and meets company requirements and resolves inconsistencies.

    + Provides Document Action Request assistance for company documents.

    + Provides support for company forms.

    + Provides technical writing support for NFO directives and forms.

    + Reviews the writing and editing of other technical writers to ensure that documents meet company-established quality standards and are completed on time.

    + Advises the other Technical Writers on issues regarding specific work assignments and issues/resolution regarding current work processes.

    + Reviews and monitors the activities of Technical Writers involved in the company procedure development process. Coordinates with all levels of management to resolve problems that affect company procedure workflow and quality.

    + Researches and collects background information and technical data needed to write technical reports and other documents; analyzes the information for relevancy; and rewrites the information in a clear, concise manner.

    + Interfaces with professional contacts at DOE, contractors, and the national laboratories to obtain specific subject matter expertise required to prepare documents.

    + Independently coordinates highly complex or specialized jobs.

    + Prepares technical information products for DOE approval to publish, assists authors in meeting DOE and publishers’ publication requirements, and coordinates technical information product duplication and distribution.

    + Organizes assigned document development projects, collects project-related information and data from interviews with subject matter experts, and performs research to support the project.

    + Participates in meetings with customers regarding document needs, reviews document requirements with customers, and recommends and coordinates any graphic design, additional editorial support, production support, and outside support.

    + Coordinates efforts necessary to prepare clear, concise, high quality, professional documents.

    + Works with graphics specialists to design and prepare illustrations, charts, and diagrams for use in documents.

    + Stays abreast of current trends in technical and scientific terminology developments to assist authors in editing technical documents.

    + Meets established deadlines, monitors job progress, prioritizes work, and alerts supervisor prior to due date when schedules may not be met or assistance is required in work prioritization.

    + Maintains document and resource files in a centralized location and tracks all job-related data.

    + Performs related work as assigned by the manager.

    Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in related field and at least 8 years' of professional level experience, or equivalent training and experience.

    + Able to utilize independent judgment, creativity, initiative, and ability to apply knowledge and experience to resolve problems and compose technical correspondence and reports.

    + Able to prioritize and schedule multiple activities.

    + Able to communicate with all types of people in a tactful, professional, and effective manner while screening and maintaining confidentiality.

    + Able to remember extensive policies, procedures, terminology, schedules, personnel, and other details.

    + Able to deal with the pressure of handling multiple tasks, complaints, frequent interruptions, and time constraints.

    + Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

    + The primary work location with be the North Las Vegas campus.

    + The work schedule is Monday - Thursday (4X10) (subject to change).

    + Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

    + Must possess a valid driver’s license.

     

    MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

     

    **Department of Energy Q Clearance** (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 (http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=14b1c770db022992d237769fbe9fc519&mc=true&node=se10.4.707\_14&rgn=div8) , “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required.     Annual salary range for this position is: $99,790.57 - $152,180.63.

     

    Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
