    The Burke is seeking a creative, strategically-minded person to develop and implement the Burke’s program offerings for adult, member and donor audiences. As a member of the Development Department, the Adult & Member Public Programs Manager will serve as a connector, facilitator, and creator. This includes working closely with Education, Development, Membership, and Collections departments to support logistics, promote mission and audience-aligned offerings and contribute to the growth of earned income. Other responsibilities include conducting ongoing program evaluation and establishing transparent and collaborative practices to select and prioritize potential community partnerships and proposed programs.

     

    This person will also create and implement an annual suite of programs such as events, lectures, classes, and performances that engage visitors with the Burke’s mission of sharing natural and cultural collections so all people can learn, be inspired, generate knowledge, feel joy, and heal. These programs should be primarily geared toward adult audiences and complement two other sets of ongoing programs: those developed for youth and families managed by the Burke’s Education team and those developed for members and donors managed by the Membership and Development teams. These programs should be responsive and reflective of community needs, current events, museum priorities, current collections research and special exhibitions.

     

    This position is fully funded for one year, with the possibility of renewal at the end of this period.

     

    **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** Programs Strategy, Alignment and Evaluation:

    + Create and maintain systems for ongoing evaluation and program improvement and incorporate learnings into the creation of new programs and the repetition of established programs

    + Participate in Audience development work to establish a new mission-aligned, revenue-generating audience development plan and align future program offerings with the outcomes of this work

    + Participate in upcoming institutional strategic planning work to establish short and long-term goals and objectives for Public Programs and ensure integration of Burke-wide priorities

    + Communicate ongoing program work to all Burke staff to promote general awareness, create excitement and share ways to engage or supportAdult Program Development and Implementation:

    + Incrementally develop a sustainable, revenue-generating suite of diverse adult-focused annual offerings supported by the museum’s collections and resources that align with the Burke’s audience development and other strategic goals

    + Create and maintain ongoing partnerships with mission-similar organizations, community groups, sponsors and partners

    + Maintain annual budget and adult program planning documents including program briefs, schedules, long-term planning, post-event debriefs, etc.

    + Coordinate all event logistics with internal and external partners, including providing clear program requests to Visitor Services, Private Events, Operations, and Volunteer Program staff to assist them in supporting staffing, amenities, space reservations, and rental coordination needs.

    + Work with Communications department to create event descriptions for program promotion and ticketing and support development of onsite signage as needed

    + Participate in the development and ongoing implementation of a supporter pipeline that focuses on converting public program attendees into prospective Burke members and donors

    + Work with Membership Manager to implement creative member opportunities or promotions related to adult programsYouth & Family Programs Support:

    + Support Youth & Family Programs Manager with logistical planning and onsite support during family programs and events. This may include:

    + Work cross-departmentally to creatively leverage a growing library of virtual program recordings to connect and build upon programs across time

    + Collaborate with Education Department, Bill Holm Center of Northwest Native Art and other departments by occasionally serving as technical support during virtual programming and creating reference documents or work plans as needed **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**

    + Bachelor’s Degree in history, museum studies, fine arts, education, communications, anthropology and

    + 2-3 years of professional experience in a program specialty OR equivalent education and experience **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration** **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**

    + Periodic evening, weekend and holiday availability

    + Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and experience using virtual collaboration and presentation platforms (e.g. Zoom, Teams, OneDrive, Slack, Asana etc)

    + People-oriented, proactive, problem solver

    + Highly organized with strong attention to detail

    + Excellent communication skills, in person, over the phone and via email

    + Experience with logistics, security, and event management

    + Experience with audience development, program evaluation and project management **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**

    + A broad variety of program management experience, especially with providing mission-driven and/or educational experiences that encourage knowledge exchange as opposed to didactic instruction

    + Creative thinker excited to expand what museum programming can be and how to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders

    + Experience fostering inclusive practice

    + Experience working with the public in customer service capacity **CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**

    + Appointment to this position is contingent upon obtaining satisfactory results from a criminal background check

    + Able to complete additional youth safety trainings and undergo a criminal background check every three years to qualify as a Youth Authorized Personnel.

    + Able to work in an environment visible to the pubic with visual and audible distractions
