    The School of Nursing (SON) Office of Student and Academic Affairs has an outstanding opportunity for an Undergraduate Program Academic Advisor. The Undergraduate Academic Adviser for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) programs is a key team member in supporting undergraduate nursing students through their respective programs (BSN or ABSN). This position serves approximately 290+ full-time matriculated undergraduate students and works collaboratively with various stakeholders in the school, predominantly program administrators, Office of Clinical Placements, and program faculty to ensure successful student progression through their respective programs. Additionally, this position is tasked with ensuring adherence to the best practices, recommendations, and standards set forth by the National Academic Advising Association. This position requires a thorough understanding of the complexities of the BSN/ABSN curriculum, nursing pre-licensure requirements, and the school’s program requirements and policies.

     

    This position is central to the Student Services team, playing a pivotal role in the strategic advancement of the school’s baccalaureate programs. This role carries out a student-centered advising approach that strengthens the student experience and serves as the first point of contact for students. The individual in this position provides students with the appropriate resources and services that will help retain and guide students throughout the program. This includes and is not limited to individual and group advising sessions, tracking academic progression, ensuring adherence to UW and School of Nursing requirements, and serving as a conduit to share resources to meet students’ individual needs. This role serves as a liaison to undergraduate student groups and supports the school’s undergraduate Coordinating Committee.

     

    Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Academic Advising, the Undergraduate Nursing The Academic Adviser will provide advising services to all undergraduate students enrolled in the ABSN and BSN programs (three cohorts), and will work collaboratively to assess and improve upon the student experience within each program, and will help to ensure student progression and graduation.

    Key Responsibilities:** **ABSN & BSN Academic Advising (85%)

    • Serve as a subject matter expert on BSN and ABSN program requirements, policies, and licensure pathways.

    • Ensure and maintain adherence to guidelines, standards, and recommendations provided by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS)

    • Provide timely, consistent, and comprehensive academic advising to ~290 undergraduate students across four cohorts, both individually and in groups.

    • Advise students on academic progression, registration, course planning, graduation requirements, and licensure.

    • Develop, plan, coordinate, and facilitate quarterly academic advising sessions for current and incoming students.

    • Collaborate with faculty to address student concerns and resolve academic challenges.

    • Refer students to appropriate school and university resources for academic, financial, or wellness support.

    • Provide administrative support for the BSN Honors Program in partnership with the faculty coordinator.

    • Maintain and update the Undergraduate Student Handbook annually.

    • Manage all daily administrative operations for both undergraduate programs – ABSN & BSN

    • Lead and inform students about the registration process for their respective programs and work with the SoN curriculum team to ensure all registration is accurate and current.

    • Manage Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS) and graduation applications.

    • Initiate and coordinate the NCLEX licensure application process.

    Administrative support: (10%)

    • Support school-wide student events, including orientation, convocation, pinning, and career development workshops.

    • Respond promptly to student and faculty inquiries.

    • Serve as a primary reviewer for ABSN and BSN admissions applications.

    • Support the broader mission and strategic goals of the School of Nursing.

    Coordinating Committee Support (5%)

    • Serve as staff liaison for the BSN Coordinating Committee (BSNCC).

    • Collaborate with the committee chair and Undergraduate Program Director to plan meetings and support policy discussions.

    • Advise on university and SoN policies during committee deliberations.

    • Coordinate the annual undergraduate student progress review process.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, or related field AND 2 years of office, administrative, or customer/student service experience

    Additional Requirements:

    • Demonstrated student services experience in a university or higher education setting

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Zoom; ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software systems.

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and build effective working relationships.

    • Demonstrated sound judgment and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

    • Proven ability to take initiative, work independently, and manage tasks and projects with minimal supervision.

    • Experience working collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including students, faculty, and staff.

    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with a commitment to accuracy and efficiency in all responsibilities.

     

    _Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration._ **Desired Qualifications:**

    • Prior student advising experience in a university or higher education setting.

    • Prior nursing student advising experience.

    • Understanding of UW’s academic advising resources.

    • Familiarity with the UW advising guidelines, tools, and resources.

    • Familiarity with Canvas and other learning technology platforms.

    • Familiarity with the School of Nursing baccalaureate curriculum.

    Conditions of Employment:

    Normal work hours of 8am-5pm, with occasional weekend and evening commitments. Hybrid work (3 days on campus/2 days telework) may be approved after onboarding and training are complete
