    The Jackson School of International Studies (JSIS) combines the social sciences, humanities, and professional fields to enhance our understanding of our increasingly interconnected globe. JSIS currently offers six undergraduate majors, 17 minors and nine M.A. degrees, and a Ph.D. Program. In addition, graduate students have the opportunity to pursue concurrent degrees with programs in business administration, public affairs, law, public health, marine affairs, and forest resources. JSIS is a department in the Social Sciences Division of the UW College of Arts and Sciences.

     

    JSIS has an outstanding opportunity for a Communications and Events Specialist.

     

    The Communication and Events Specialist collaborates with the JSIS Programs and Centers, provides publicity, website, and social media design and content creation, and supports the promotion and administration of JSIS events and activities for the JSIS programs and events. This position will report to the Director of Communications.

     

    **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** **Communications & Publicity** General

    + Collaborate with a small team to develop comprehensive publicity plans for each Center event.

    + Draft and oversee email campaigns to promote events and opportunities.

    + Generate email newsletters, including text writing, image formatting, and adherence to guidelines using respective email platforms and best practices.Editorial & Design Support

    + Ensure compliance with official UW brand guidelines.

    + Execute the production of flyers, brochures, and other assets as needed.Content Creation

    + Edit content from students, faculty, and contributors, offering feedback and coordinating revisions.

    + Create article summaries, fact-check, copy edit to according to UW editorial, and publish to online channels, including formatting text, images, and hyperlinks.

    + Source appropriate online images, edit images as necessary, and add metadata.

    + Ongoing review of website content.Social Media

    + Develop engaging posts for Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, sharing event information, news, photos, and articles.

    + Monitor and respond to user engagement.

    + Create custom graphics and cropped images as required. **Event and Travel Support**

    + Assist with planning events and managing their logistical/administrative aspects (room reservations, catering reservations, room setup/clean up, attendee travel arrangements, etc.)

    + Coordinate, submit and track travel reimbursements, honoraria payments, and vendor payments to JSIS Business Office and CAS Admin Support Team.

    + Maintain and update email lists (faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and community) and lists of faculty contact information.

    + Provide information to students, staff, program participants, and/or public regarding event content, policies, and activities; recommend alternative courses of action; promote the event on campus with outside organizations. **General Administration**

    + Undertake special projects or additional tasks as required by the supervisor.

    + May supervise student workers.

    + Assist Center for Global Studies and other JSIS centers with grant preparation and reporting. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**

    + Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business, International Studies or other related fields.

    + 1 year of experience in communications and/or design.

    + 1 year of work experience involving public contact, such as public information, sales, promotion and/or in the hospitality industry. **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration** **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**

    + Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

    + Demonstrated creativity, organizational ability, and meticulous attention to detail.

    + Familiar with branding and editorial standards

    + Ability to work independently, problem-solve, take initiative, set priorities, and manage multiple projects efficiently.

    + Proficiency in WordPress or ability to quickly learn the platform.

    + Experience in managing social media platforms for business.
