WORK SCHEDULE:
+ 40 hours per week

+ State Employee Tuition Exemption Program covering up to 6 credits of qualifying coursework per quarter at the University of Washington or other participating colleges or universities. **DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION** A regional resource for clinical laboratory services required for innovative patient care, research and educational programs, the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology combines the sophisticated testing and informatics capabilities of fully accredited laboratories with the resources of an academic institution in its delivery of clinical and anatomic pathology services. To learn more about our team, please click HERE (https://dlmp.uw.edu/about/about-us) . **PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:**
+ Obtain pre-authorization for genetic testing. Communicate with genetic counselors, ordering provider, and patients regarding benefits.
+ Review all required elements submitted by the genetic counselor or ordering provider supporting the Letter of Medical Necessity.
+ Verify eligibility with various payers.
+ Coordinate with laboratory admin staff to create billable codes for special cases.
+ Provide instructions to ordering providers on specimen handling logistics.
+ Load all documents into the LabMed Tracker.
+ Review, verify and match information entered into the Lab Information Billing System.
+ Generate invoices for laboratory services.
+ Ensure compliance with departmental, institutional, health care agency, and governmental policies, rules and regulations.
+ Advise community users on laboratory services and billing policies, account status, insurance information, and alternative options available. **REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS**
+ High School diploma or GED certificate plus two years of experience in a medical office setting,OR
+ Equivalent education/experience. **ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Ability to remain flexible and accept change.
+ Knowledge in securing pre-authorization from various insurance entities.
+ Knowledge of and ability to work with computer-based accounts receivable programs.
+ Experienced at customer service relations.
+ Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel programs.
+ Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT billing codes, and ICD-10 diagnosis codes. **CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**
+ It will be necessary to work in other departmental locations to meet patient service requirements, especially at Harborview Medical Center. In addition, less frequent work effort will be required at other UW School of Medicine locations (e.g., South Lake Union) and Seattle-area healthcare institutions.
+ Will be considered essential staff and as such will be required to report to work when scheduled despite inclement weather.
