Position Description:

This position is responsible for performing dental prophylactic services and providing education for the prevention and control of dental disease. Work is performed under supervision of dentist. Work is performed in usual clinic conditions; requires a high degree of contact with patients.

Major/Essential Functions:

+ Provides professional dental prophylactic services and education for the prevention and control of dental disease

+ Obtains digital dental radiographs

+ Maintains and updates all records of care provided

+ Assists in surgical and restorative procedures

+ Cleans, sterilize and packages dental instruments

+ Inventories supplies, instruments and maintains inventory log

+ Routinely updates self knowledge on processes practice, procedures and products

+ Assists with patient calls, appointment scheduling, emergency cases, student and faculty schedules

+ Checks for reminders and new appointments in the EHR

+ Sets up instrument trays and ensures emergency equipment and supplies are available

+ Trains existing and/or new employees in the registration and processing of patients or in any other job related duties

+ Provides cross-training to staff within different clinic areas

+ Attend meetings which include being part of the committees to assist in improving operational efficiency

+ Oversight of Dental Hygienist - responsible to review and correct assigned staff time clock entries, making adjustments as deemed necessary

+ Remains current with all licensure, certifications and mandatory compliances and trainings required of this position

+ Adhere to all policies, procedures and practices (Regents Rules, TTUS, HSECEP OPs, etc.)

+ Personally demonstrate, display and act in accordance with TTUHSC EP's Values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork). Serve as a Value's leader while actively promoting and encouraging staff across the institution

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Minimal 3 years dental hygiene experience and 1 year dental hygiene teaching experience

+ Bilingual: English and Spanish preferred

+ Exceptional attention to detail

+ The ability to troubleshoot and verify the accuracy of work

+ Demonstrate evidence of strong commitment to excellence in teaching, mentoring, patient care, continuing education, community service, leadership, ability to work in a busy work environment, and ability to understand and follow instructions

+ Willing to work M-F 0800-1700 with possible flex hours, some holidays are possible

+ Required to work during preparations for student national exams held during the academic year
