    Responsibilities:

    GENERAL PURPOSE

    The position involves supporting research focused on different types of high-risk child and adolescent media use (e.g. engagement with suicide or drug-related online content) in Dr Meredith Ganser’s research team. The RA will assist the PI in drafting new study IRB protocol submissions, recruiting adolescent subjects for both longitudinal ecological momentary assessment and cross-sectional survey studies, and surveying and administering psychological assessments to study participants. In addition to recruitment and data collection, the applicant will be expected to help with data entry, data processing and basic data analyses of both new project data, as well as existing data from the PI’s NIDA-funded project on youth exposure to drug and alcohol-related online content. Lastly, the RA will perform literature reviews to support new grant submissions and help with editing and formatting grants and paper manuscripts. They will be expected to participate in weekly team meetings and help with training any new personnel who may be rotating through the lab. This is a full-time position

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    + Assists in human subject recruitment and screening activities, including reviewing patient databases and medical records for patients that meet protocol inclusion criteria, helping to develop and optimize recruitment strategies, and approaching eligible patients via active recruitment.

    + Helps design recruitment materials such as information pamphlets and flyers.

    + Participants will be recruited from both URMC-affiliated outpatient mental health clinics and URMC acute care settings, requiring the RA to be able to travel between the main hospital campus and the Golisano Behavioral Health Building.

    + Enrolls participants, performs informed consent and assent processes with participants (and participants’ guardian when applicable).

    + For cross-sectional survey studies, will administer surveys and mental health assessments, and for ecological momentary assessment studies, will help participants download and set up a smartphone application.

    + Ensures all data are collected and secured within approved protocol parameters and will document protocol exceptions and adverse events when applicable.

    + Creates databases and performs data entry for newly collected data.

    + Performs data cleaning and processing of both new data and existing data from PI’s prior grant-funded projects. Performs basic analyses of collected data, including chi-square and t-tests, and regression modeling.

    + Creates tables and figures to assist with visualization and publication of study results.

    + Assists in drafting IRB protocol submissions/amendments, protocol SOPs, peer-reviewed manuscripts and grant submissions (e.g. writing select sections, creating figures, tables, and graphs, inserting references).

    + Conducts literature reviews to support protocols and grant submissions and maintains/organize relevant papers within a citation manager. Helps proofread and edit manuscripts and grant submissions. Initiates draft responses to manuscript and IRB protocol reviews.

    + Trains new lab personnel in existing recruitment, consent/assent and data entry protocols.

    + Expected to attend weekly lab meetings and daily check-ins with PI for updates/planning purposes.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    + Bachelor’s degree, or

    + Associate's degree and completion of 6 months in the Human Subject Research Coordinator Trainee Program Required
