Under the supervision of Lead Principal Investigator and Faculty Director of the McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research (Dr. Fred Ssewamala), the Research Director/Grants Administrator will have day-to-day responsibility for the coordination and execution of pre-award and post-award processes associated with an increasingly large and complex externally-funded project portfolio.
The scope of duties will include the following:
Set-up, profiling, and management of all sponsored research accounts, including federal (NSF and NIH) and private foundation grants, and gifts;
Assisting the PI with the preparation and submission of federally- and privately-funded research proposals;
Securing the review and approval of research proposals through the NYU Silver School of Social Work Office for Research [OFR], including coordination with NYU's University Committee on Activities Involving Human Subjects, as well as other internal and University departments, as needed;
Supervision of clerical employees and student workers affiliated with the PI's Research Portfolio, including hiring, training, and evaluating performance;
Management of key administrative operations for the PI's research, including grant budget and research team payment allocation monitoring, as well as internal account reconciliation;
Advising the PI on the use of risk accounts and no-cost extensions in coordination with the NYU Silver Office of Administration and Finance and the NYU Research Finance Support Office;
Coordination of personnel payment allocation for the PI's sponsored projects on all restricted and research-related accounts;
Coordination of personnel appointment activity, including overseeing the processing of all appointment forms, drafting and submitting budget modifications to ensure personnel expenses can post to various accounts;
Serving as the administrative liaison between Professor Fred Ssewamala and the NYU Silver Office of Administration and Finance, the NYU Silver Office for Research, the NYU Office of Research Finance Support, the NYU Office of Sponsored Programs, and other NYU Silver and University departments with which the PI and the PI's research team have collaborative funding arrangements.
A bachelor's degree is required, along with 3+ years of experience managing grants, developing administrative services/processes, and managing grant and/or operating budgets. 2+ years of experience with general accounting is preferred.
Candidates must have excellent organizational, time-management, interpersonal, and written/verbal communications skills, as well as the ability to work both independently and in teams. They must also be well-versed in quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy, and legitimacy of data in NYU systems, as well as be able to strictly follow data privacy and security procedures for data handling and analysis to ensure adherence to legal and institutional standards.
Knowledge of standard office software, and intermediate to advanced Excel skills is required. Knowledge of OBIEE financial reporting, Cayuse 424, Cayuse SP, Peoplesync Workday, Ibuy and AP Workflow systems is preferred.
This position is full-time and includes a generous benefits package. In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
