    Position Highlights

    The pharmacy manager of safety and training will be responsible for the medication safety program including developing, implementing and monitoring medication safety initiatives. The manager will collaborate closely with internal pharmacy and external stakeholders. The manager will also coordinate education and training in various areas related to medication safety and professional development of all pharmacy staff.

    A Brief Overview

     

    Oversees the clinical and distributive pharmacy services for their assigned service area in accordance with professional standards, regulatory and licensing agency policies, and federal and state laws related to the practice of pharmacy. The Manager is responsible for maintaining a hiring and retention plan for pharmacy personnel, ensuring that an effective schedule is in place, and adhering to a budget for operations and capital for the department. The Manager will actively participate in the appropriate management teams to ensure standardization and integration with other areas and facilities. The Manager will also provide leadership or service to various committees of the organization. Provides patient care consistent with applicable regulations and the mission of Avera by monitoring and recommending optimal medication therapy, processing patient medication orders, and providing pharmaceutical information to staff and patients related to specific job assignments. Must utilize effective problem solving skills as appropriate and accept personal responsibility and accountability for the patient's outcomes.

    What you will do

    + Performs, evaluates functions related to assigned pharmacy services such as processing medication orders, preparing and dispensing medications, inventory management, evaluating patients for drug interactions or allergies, counseling patients, and evaluating and managing patients' medication therapies to ensure patient safety and optimal medication regimens.

    + Responsible for the coordination of all activities associated with departmental policies, procedures, goals and objectives. Accountable for the ongoing operations of the department with regard to established safety/quality standards and efficiency and productivity standards. Assists with the analysis, collection of and maintenance of records as required for Joint Commission accreditation, OSHA guidelines or as may be required by the laws. May include roles such as Pharmacist in Charge.

    + Assures the establishment and maintenance of standards of practice, competency-based orientation, and continuing education programs for self and department. May assist or oversee interns, residents and be responsible for accreditation or other program oversight and monitoring.

    + Assists in developing and adhering to a budget for the department. Manages expenses, establishes operational systems that insure maximum resource utilization and financial performance for the department.

    + Works within management team to ensure staffing model that efficiently utilizes all resources to provide maximum productivity and deliver high quality, patient-centered, pharmaceutical care. Maintains master and daily work schedules for the department. Monitors and coordinates adjustments to workflow patterns. Functions as a staff pharmacist as needed.

    + Provides service to appropriate, designated committees (i.e. P&T, medical staff, etc.) to ensure quality patient care and the effective delivery of pharmacy services.

    + Responsible for establishing, maintaining a quality improvement plan for their area of responsibility to ensure an environment of continual process improvement.

    + Develops and maintains effective working relationships with other areas,departments and facilities to ensure optimal effectiveness of pharmacy services.

    + Presents findings and recommendations to senior management and participates in revenue integrity meetings.

    + Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and leading work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

    + Pharmacist - Board of Pharmacy active in state of practice Upon Hire

    Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

    + Doctorate (PHD) Pharmacy

    + Some College Completion of ASHP Accredited PGY1 (and PGY2) Pharmacy Residency

    + Master's in Business Administration or other applicable Master’s degree

    + BPS Certification - Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) Board certification by the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties Upon Hire and

    + 4-6 years of pharmacy practice experience
