    RESPONSIBILITIES

    I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Plans, coordinates and facilitates the daily activities of the Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) Service and ensures all activities are performed in accordance with established policies and procedure standards.

    • Develops and performs FISH analysis of tissue and other pathological specimens.

    • Performs and reports test results that may require conclusion, evaluation or value judgment.

    • Performs related quality control and clerical functions; problem solving and informal orientation and/or technical instruction.

    II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Essential: standing, walking, finger dexterity, seeing, reaching at and below shoulder level, repetitive arm/hand motions.

    • Continuous: twisting body, hearing, speaking, and frequent gripping of an object.

    • Frequent: sitting, climbing stairs, carrying usual weight of 10 up to maximum of 50 pounds.

    • Occasional: stooping/ bending, kneeling, crawling, walking on uneven ground, squatting, lifting weight of 10 pounds up to maximum of 50 pounds; pushing/pulling weight of 10 pounds up to maximum 50 pounds of force; reaching above shoulder level, static gripping of an object for prolonged periods.

    • Operates various laboratory instruments and equipment.

    III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.

    • Subjected to noise/vibration from equipment noise.

    • Exposure to body fluids, communicable diseases, HIV positive specimens.

    IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

    • Current Hawaii State licensure as a Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Specialist.

    B. EXPERIENCE:

    • Three (3) years experience as a Medical Technologist, Molecular Technologist or Cytogenetic Technologist.

    • Experience in FISH testing and analysis preferred.
