Job Overview
Fairview is looking for a Scribe to join our Emergency Department team in Minneapolis, MN.
Bring Your Possibilities to Fairview
At Fairview, we believe in the power of possibility — within ourselves, our teams, and the
communities we serve. We believe that leadership isn’t just a title — it’s a mindset we all
share. Whether you’re providing hands-on care, innovating behind the scenes, or
supporting those who do, your work matters.
Job Summary:
The scribe follows the emergency physician into the patient’s room and enters information into a computer using a specially designed template. As the doctor dictates, the scribe records the patient’s medical history, the reason for the visit, and the results of the physical exam. The scribe enters orders for lab tests and x-rays, records the results of diagnostic tests, and helps the physician and the nurse keep track of the patient in the ED. After the doctor reviews the chart, he or she enters the diagnosis and plan of care and signs the chart electronically.
Position Details:
+ 0.6 FTE (48 hours per pay period)
+ day/evening shift
+ every other weekend rotation
Job Expectations:
+ Assigned to work with one Emergency physician per shift.
+ Accompanies the physician upon patient interview and examination.
+ Documents physical examination findings and procedures as performed by the physician.
+ Documents the correct time of patient care related activities, including physician-to-physician communication, family communication, and re-examination of the patient.
+ When the physician concludes the patient’s encounter, the physician will review all documentation completed by the scribe, make any necessary amendments, and sign the chart. The physician is responsible for documentation of the patient’s care.
+ The physician and the scribe will make “chart rounds” to review patient status, delays, and any other care-related issues. All orders for patient care must be communicated by the physician and not the scribe.
+ Scribes do not participate in any patient care and should refer all requests related to patient care to the responsible physician or nursing staff; including but not limited to, transporting specimens, answering phone, assisting patients, calling physicians, etc.

+ Completion of 2-3 years of college course work towards a bachelor’s degree in Pre-med, Nursing or Physician Assistant
Preferred
License/Certification/Registration
+ Previous experience utilizing emergency medicine medical terminology and computer proficiency.
