    General Summary

    Develops, coordinates and presents childbirth education programs for the community.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Essential Functions:

    + Provides accurate information about the physiology, psychology, and sociology of pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and early parenthood.

    + Provides skills to assist women and their support persons to cope with pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and early parenthood.

    + Acts as a facilitator who helps couples better understand and value their experience as they transition into parenthood.

    + Provides an avenue for communication between the pregnant women and other members of the health care team.

    + Serves as an advocate for pregnant women, their partners and infants.

    + Communicates accurate information about pregnancy, childbirth, childcare, and early parenthood in a clear, concise, understandable manner

    + Serves as a resource to the community by developing and planning programs in response to identified needs.

    Common Expectations:

    + Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

    + Enhances professional growth and development through advanced/continuing education to maintain up-to-date knowledge, skills, and competencies.

    + Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education:

    + Diploma Program in Nursing Required or

    + Associates Degree Required

    Work Experience:

    + 1 year In OB specialty (labor and delivery, maternity, NICU). Required

    + Experience as an educator in a health related field/organization. Preferred

    Licenses:

    + Licensed Registered Nurse Upon Hire Preferred and

    + Heartsaver CPR/AED Upon Hire Preferred

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Knowledge of adult and childhood educational principles.

    + Strong communications skills.
