University Assistant Director of Advocacy and Scholarships, Office of Student Affairs
POSITION DETAILS
The University Assistant Director of Advocacy and Scholarships will serve as a key member in the Office of Student Affairs at the Central Office and works in close collaboration with the leadership of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Office of Academic Affairs and the Offices of Enrollment Management and Financial Aid.
Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, the Assistant Director advances student success and wellbeing by managing student concerns and inquiries, facilitating resolution of student complaints, and overseeing the centralized administration of scholarships. The incumbent functions in an ombuds-style capacity and serves as a trusted resource for students, providing guidance on University policies, procedures, and student rights.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview information, other key duties include, but will not be limited to the following:
+ Serve as the primary point of contact for student inquiries, complaints, and concerns received by the Central Office of Student Affairs.
+ Administer processes related to the intake, documentation, investigation, and referral of student grievances to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for resolution.
+ Maintain a centralized database to track complaints, actions taken, and outcomes; ensure timely and confidential handling of all cases.
+ Prepare and present regular summary reports on complaint trends and open issues to senior leadership.
+ Administer all privately and publicly funded scholarships managed by the Central Office of Student Affairs.
+ Serve as the University liaison to campus financial aid offices and scholarship committees across the CUNY system.
+ Responsible for all aspects of scholarship administration, including agreement review, documentation intake, eligibility verification, application processing, and award disbursement.
+ Manage the scholarship CRM and ensure timely updates, communications, and reporting.
+ Handle administrative tasks related to application review processes, including scheduling of committee meetings and interviews.
+ Monitor scholarship fund balances to ensure alignment with donor intent and compliance with University and financial aid regulations.
+ Support strategic student-focused initiatives and participate in cross-office collaborations.
+ Other duties as assigned.
NOTES:
Until further notice, this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum:
Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.
Preferred:
• Demonstrated commitment to student-centered service, particularly in a diverse higher education setting.
• Experience managing student complaints, grievance processes, or related ombuds functions.
• Familiarity with University policies related to student conduct, grievances, and financial aid.
• Knowledge of federal and state student financial aid regulations and scholarship compliance practices.
• Ability to manage a multi-faceted, time-sensitive, and demanding student focused and responsive operation serving both internal and external constituents.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively with campus partners and University leadership.
• Proficiency with PeopleSoft and CRM based student platforms.
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills; strong analytical and interpersonal skills.

- Administers one or more student affairs programs, providing program management, assistance with policy development, supervision and training of all professional and support staff, budget monitoring, and report preparation
- Serves as a resource to student groups and/or populations as a consultant and advocate for their concerns
- Researches and stays current on higher education programs, trends, and issues with student impact
- Produces workshops and materials to support student programs; manages on-line communities; develops on-line social networking activities, and develops and maintains multimedia content on program web sites
- Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The salary range is **$72,667 - $90,375** , commensurate with credentials, education, and experience.
CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 6.09% with additional increases of 3.25% effective 9/1/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
