    Job Description

    We are seeking a reliable and motivated student worker to join our team for the Fall 2025. The primary role of this position is to assist with field and laboratory activities that support ongoing research in the Controlled Environment Entomology program. This part-time position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a professional environment while supporting the daily operations of our program. The student worker will help staff and graduate students maintain the various insect colonies and plants, prepare for fieldwork, and support basic sample preparation and processing in the lab, greenhouse and high tunnel. There is a possibility of continuing the position in the Spring 2026 semester based on performance and department needs.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Water plants in greenhouse and insect rooms as needed.

    + Sow and transplant vegetable plants used in experiments.

    + Assist with the maintenance of whitefly, thrips, aphid and big-eyed bug colonies.

    + Assist with preparing supplies and materials for insect experiments.

    + Depending on the season, assistance in planting, staking, pruning, fertilizing, and harvesting various crops.

    + Contribute to general lab organization, cleaning, and preparation of supplies and reagents.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    + Must be currently enrolled at a community college or university.

    + Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

    + Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities.

    + Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

    Work Schedule:

    + Flexible hours between 7am and 5pm, Monday - Friday, not to exceed 20 hours per week.

    + Schedule will be coordinated based on class availability.
