We are growing and looking for a talented Software Development Engineer to join the Amazon Kids team. You will be responsible for owning and driving large-scale customer-facing features from inception to delivery and beyond. Key job responsibilities
- You'll take ownership for the long-term quality and success of the products that your team builds and drive continuous improvement in engineering and operational excellence
- You'll work with your manager and team mates to clarify requirements, design solutions, and solve difficult software problems
- You'll identify appropriate tradeoffs and escalate when you realize that a problem is beyond your control
- You'll mentor your new teammates and help them learn to develop production software in line with Amazon's quality bar
A day in the life
In this role, you'll leverage your experience as a Software Engineer to solve difficult technical problems. You'll invent, design and build software that solves the challenges that kids and their parents face day-to-day. You'll work closely with your leadership and product management stakeholders to design simple solutions. You'll help to maintain our production software in the field and you'll identify our pain points and drive your team to solve them. You'll help make your team better, more efficient, and a more enjoyable place to work.
About the team
Our team owns the content catalog and its associated metadata across all content types. We also own search functionality as well as device messaging notification. These services support the clients across all devices surfaces (tablet, FireTV, Echo etc.) for millions of customers. The content and metadata is used to power personalization and recommendation services as well as search and other customer facing features.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
- Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Familiarity with Java, Kotlin and Javascript
- Experience operating and maintaining cloud-based services
- Experience defining system architectures and exploring technical tradeoffs
- Ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders across all levels of the organization

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
