Responsibilities As an Budget Officer in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), you will Planning, formulating, justifying, implementing, and administering budget and financial management activities. Providing positive recommendations and alternative approaches to improve program plans, budget proposals, costs of operations, and program accomplishments Preparing budget justifications for recommended allocation levels, particularly deviations from initial office submissions Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets goals and priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. Assigns work to subordinates based on difficulty of assignments and staff capabilities. Evaluates work performance of subordinates. Provides technical advice and assistance to resolve problems referred by staff. Interviews candidates for positions in unit and makes tentative selections subject to approval by the United States Attorney. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-13: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience as financial management expert and developing, planning, implementing, and administering the full spectrum of budget and financial management activities. Examples of specialized experience include: analyzing and evaluating the effectiveness of financial management programs, systems, and operations in meeting established goals and objectives; developing financial policies to facilitate achievement of program goals and objectives; providing recommendations and alternative approaches to improve program plans, budget proposals, costs of operations, and program accomplishments; and providing technical guidance, advice, and assistance to senior management in the identification of future resource and budget requirements. Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP)-The CTAP provides eligible surplus and displaced competitive service employees in the Department of Justice with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
