We’re seeking a talented Environmental Compliance Consultant in Detroit, Michigan to support and deliver stormwater and air permit compliance through engineering, design, and project management. Join our Environmental Compliance team as an Environmental Compliance Consultant and play a pivotal role in shaping innovative solutions for projects. You'll use your technical skills and collaborative spirit to support diverse teams and contribute to impactful projects that deliver value to public and private sector projects. This role offers the opportunity to join a dynamic, forward-thinking team committed to excellence in environmental compliance solutions.
You'll utilize your engineering and science background and creativity to address stormwater and air permit compliance tasks. You'll help advance the industry by delivering sustainable solutions for clients and connect with Jacobs’ practitioners to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions. We'll lean on you to lead design, engineering, and project tasks, delegate work, and collaborate with engineers and scientists of varying experience levels. You'll also mentor junior practitioners and learn from senior practitioners to grow professionally. We'll rely on you to develop and maintain strong client relationships to drive business through proposals, networking, and sole source opportunities.
Jacobs is a hybrid work environment where some work may be performed remotely, and also includes up to 50% domestic and international travel.
Key Responsibilities:
* Interpreting and applying state and federal permit requirements.
* Understanding of Tier II and TRI/Form R chemical reporting.
* Conducting monthly stormwater inspections and quarterly comprehensive stormwater inspections and monthly air monitoring.
* Developing annual stormwater review reports and maintaining monitoring records.
* Conducting recordkeeping and documentation of monthly and annual environmental activities.
* Providing responsive, reliable technical guidance and support.

* A bachelor’s degree in chemical, civil, or environmental engineering, or related engineering or science field.
* Between three and eight years of experience with the Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act provisions.
* Ability to travel an estimated 50% of time, both domestic and international.
* Experience working with multi-disciplinary project teams and comfortable guiding them through best practices.
* Experience with writing (i.e., regulatory compliance plans, stormwater inspection reports, proposals).
* Proficiency in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Access, etc.).
* Ability to work as part of a team and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
* Planning and organizational skills with the ability to meet project deadlines.
* Excellent attention to detail with complex engineered components.
* Strong problem-solving abilities with a client-focused mindset.
Ideally, you’ll also have
* A master’s degree in chemical, civil, or environmental engineering, or related engineering field.
* Professional Engineer (PE) or other applicable registration in Michigan and/or Indiana.
* The ability to function as a technical project lead by breaking down complex problems into actionable tasks, managing workflows, and bridging the gap between technical and non-technical team members.
* General familiarity with core project management competencies (ex: define scope, set timelines, assure quality).
