RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director, Security Operations is responsible for leading all operational security activities for MTA Bridges and Tunnels (B&T), ensuring the safety and protection of agency personnel, facilities, and critical infrastructure. This includes executive oversight of the Security Operations Center (SOC), the performance and deployment of contract security staff, and the agency’s physical security posture through 24/7 monitoring, emergency response, and real-time situational awareness.
The Director ensures operational readiness across B&T facilities by managing interagency coordination with the MTA Police Department, Office of Security, Emergency Management, and other partners.
This role also directs incident response planning, leads complex special event security operations, and conducts comprehensive risk assessments and site inspections to proactively address vulnerabilities.
As a key policy enforcer and strategic partner, the Director develops and implements security operations policies, procedures, and mitigation strategies that support continuity of operations and align with B&T and MTA-wide goals.
The position also serves as B&T’s lead representative on MTA-wide security initiatives, participates in systemwide emergency planning, and oversees the integration of security technology in collaboration with the Technical Services unit.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice, Criminal Investigations, Criminology, Homeland Security, Intelligence, Engineering Forensic Sciences, Public Administration, Business Administration, Cybersecurity, Homeland Security, Security Management, Emergency Management, Project Management, Systems, Technology or a related field.
Must have minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in security operations .
Must have at least five (5) years in a management or supervisory role in a large, multi-faceted organization.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Valid Driver's License in the State of New York .
Experience in security management to include personnel, information and computer security.
Experience with networks and communications systems (both data and voice).
Lenel Certified, or must be obtain on the job within 356 days of hire
FAA Part 107 license , or must be obtain on the job within 356 days of hire
Ability to pass a rigorous background investigation.
Ability to work in a highly confidential environment.
Ability to respond to any authority location on a 24/7 basis when required.
Ability to manage a 24/7 high-paced, extremely sensitive security center while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.
Keen understanding of Agency’s functions and responsibilities.
Geographical familiarity with the New York Metropolitan region.
Must be technically able to administer and maintain any electronic security system .
Must be able to troubleshoot and perform Level 1 and 2 Networking .
Ability to work rotating and non-traditional tours (evenings, overnight, weekends, holidays).
Ability to be work beyond normal tour of duty based on on-going or planned incidents/events.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Must have focus and ability to deliver on results, organizational effectiveness, and continuous improvement.
Must possess excellent team building, listening, problem solving, and prioritization skills.

Knowledge of revenue center operations and security, armed guard management, incident and crowd management, and access control management .

Geographical familiarity with the New York City metropolitan region .
Superior written and oral communication skills in English, with the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data effectively from verbal and written sources .
Strong ability to read and understand schematic diagrams and technical documentation .
Highly organized and detail oriented to maintain pace in frequently changing conditions .
Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, including statistical and data analysis expertise .
Superior event and task prioritization skills, with strong organizational and analytic-based reporting abilities .
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage security operations staff, including managers and personnel in a 24/7 environment, ensuring operational readiness and staff development .
Strong crisis management skills, with the ability to take command during emergency situations and make rapid, informed decisions to protect personnel, assets, and operations .
Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive operational or personnel information .
Proven ability to multitask and manage competing priorities in high-pressure situations while maintaining strategic focus .
