The University of Miami Health (UHealth) System IT Department has an opportunity for a Full-time Junior Security Analyst to work in Miami in the University's 24/7 Security Operations Center (SOC).
The Junior Security Analyst handles a broad spectrum of security related tasks to the enhancement of the security posture of the University and for the protection of information assets. The analyst is part of a 24/7 security operations team that serves as the first line of defense against cyber threats. The analyst will work with senior team members to triage alerts, investigate suspicious activity, and support incident response efforts.
will work closely with team members assisting with access verification, monitoring, reporting security related issues.
Core Responsibilities:
+ Provides support for security related issues.
+ Monitor security alerts and events from SIEM and other security tools.
+ Perform initial triage and analysis of security incidents.
+ Escalate confirmed or high-risk threats to senior analysts or incident response teams.
+ Document incidents, investigations, and response actions in ticketing systems.
+ Assist in tuning detection rules and improving alert fidelity.
+ Support vulnerability management and threat intelligence initiatives.
+ Participate in shift rotations, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
+ Maintain awareness of current threat landscape and attack techniques.
+ Follow established playbooks and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
+ Contribute to continuous improvement of SOC processes and documentation.
+ Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Department Specific Functions
+ Responsible for monitoring and reporting security incidents.
+ Operate in a 24/7 environment; shift work is required.
+ May require participation in on-call rotations or emergency response.
+ Responsible for security identity verifications.
+ Responsible for updating ticketing system.
+ Ability to triage, investigate, and report on security alerts.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Currently enrolled in a college or university program or recent graduate, in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
+ Certification in relevant specialty or field (preferred)
+ 0–1 years of experience in a security operations or IT support role.
+ Strong oral and written communication skills.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs, Excel (pivot tables), Visio, Project, PowerPoint, Word.
+ Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles, threat vectors, and attack techniques.
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
+ Ability to work collaboratively across teams.
+ Willingness to learn and grow within the cybersecurity field.
+ Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
