Insurance Authorization Specialist –** **Tuckahoe Orthopaedic & Physical Therapy - Mechanicsville, VA

PRIMARY FUNCTION/GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION

Works directly with the Office Coordinator, Clinical Coordinator, as well as Physicians to handle all functions of daily operations. Schedule patients, intakes, and manage referrals. Check-in patients, answer phone in polite and timely manner, register patients, medical records, co-pay collections and deposits. Must provide the highest level of customer service and professionalism to patients and co-workers. Proficient in current software and maintains daily, weekly, and monthly reports for support staff as directed by supervisors. Works closely with all members of the Physicians team to achieve financial and program objectives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

+ Answering the phone, co-pay collections, deposits, medical records and keeping patient files up to date and accurate.

+ Creating, editing, updating, and building the therapist and patient schedules to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime

+ Assists in invoicing system by scanning and e-mailing invoices to accounts payable.

+ Responsible for registering patients in a timely manner.

+ Prepares and submits insurance forms, obtains authorizations and any additional documentation in accordance with requirements of insurance companies and contracted clients.

+ Ensures accurate and timely payment posting and reconciliation of billing.

+ Assists in the preparation of financial and billing reports on a regular basis and as requested.

+ Maintains confidentiality in working with all patient accounts, insurance, and financial information always. Complies with HIPPA guidelines to protect patient data privacy.

+ Listening effectively to patient complaints while finding effective solutions through fact finding with staff and providers while monitoring complaints for on-going trends.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

+ High School Degree or GED

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

+ Surgery insurance authorization experince.

+ One year in a clinic or doctor’s office

+ One year in a secretarial position

+ Possesses problem-solving skills, basic computer skills, 40 WPM typing skills with excellent communication and interpersonal skills

+ Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner

+ Basic math skills
